RTI .25 Mora and it’s first range trip

Today was my Mora .25 Sniper’s first range trip. It came set up with 140 bar on the 2nd reg and it shot pretty decent with AEA 29.5 pellets with one ragged hole at 50Y so then I stretched it out to 100Y.

Calm conditions with wind at 2-5.

Does anyone know if the shroud end cap is LocTited? Mine won’t budge. I bent several punches, trying to unscrew it. Might have to try some heat tomorrow.

About 200 shots in the rear hammer got really loud and the speed dropped from 975ish to 950ish. This was before I made any tuning adjustments. I know it’s going to take several tins to allow the reg and hammer break in so I am not too concerned yet. I have put about 500 pellets through it today.

It shot pretty good but pretty wide spreads 30+. Dropped reg to 110 and had to open dwell about 1.5 turns past where it previously was to get speed back up to 975ish but still wide and similar spreads???

And a couple with 33.9 grain JSB’s. Heading back to the range again tomorrow and plan to try a few more heavy 33.9 pellets. The MK II‘s look promising. Although the 29.5 AEA performed well in super calm conditions, they seem to move around more in the slightest amount of wind. The heavies might have more potential in the wind? Time and practice will tell.

I wasn’t shooting for score but just shooting groups to get a feel for the gun and a few different tunes.

Nice & congrats!! Have fun with it, I’m loving mine (600mm .22 though). I only shot out to 70y so far in my backyard (with 34gr slugs, I know I know, never thought I’d shoot in my back with 70-80fpe slugs but the thing is just so damn good and fun…). Getting 1/2 inch or better consistently at 70y with it and honestly I think the gun could do even better (I can’t…). It’s not picky with slugs at all. Never tried pellets but may give it a go one of these days just to see.

As for the shroud, I have the same issue. I tried to get it off 2-3 times with a 6mm hex in the front and put as much force as I dared… like to the point that I got concerned to either break the end cap or bent the barrel… decided to wait for someone to figure it out and/or post a decent disassembly video :) I can rotate the CF tube by hand…

Same here. My tube rotates freely too. I’ll put the heat gun to it tomorrow and post results. There is a guy on YouTube that has done a few review videos and he talks about tensioning the barrel.

I’ve mostly shot mine without the additional silencer as it’s pretty darn quiet without it. I put it on and it’s stupid quiet and clearly the most quiet gun I’ve ever experienced.

Right?!? I use the mod because at the power and the shorter barrel it starts to get louder - in relative terms - and the mod just makes it very calm and quiet again… looking forward to hear (or not hear) it at lower power for pellets…

Would be great if you could update whether the heat gun did the trick! Thanks in advance!

I ran into the same exact problem. My end cap is way overtightened it wont budge!!!! With pellets the dwell should be 50% or more closed. I have run aea pellets at 940-960 fps. There's a good rti mora tuning video on youtube dyno gunner channel.

I'm not too impressed with these groups. If it were me, I would drop the speed to around 880-900 fps. That gun should shoot a lot better than this.

21 of the 28 groups he posted were 1.2 MOA or better - with pellets at 100 yards.

Some groups were almost 1/2 MOA (!)

The two groups with 34g MK2 JSBs were .6 MOA.

Outdoors in the wind.

Looks good Tim, but also looks like a little fine tuning might be nescessary.
I spoke with Brendan Mahaffey in Oregon about his Mora. I enjoyed the conversation and he has a lot of knowledge about the platform. Has a youtube channel called Dyno Gunner and goes by BKMahaffey on the forum
Are you going to use slugs too? ..I'm thinking the Altaros Queens should do very well

I mean half of them are sub moa at 100y outdoors with an untuned gun… I’d take that as a starting point :) my mora came with the valve way open, tightened up a lot once I started to play with the valve and even more with a combination of reg and valve.

The AEA pellets seem to like going faster than normal pellet speeds. Doesn’t mean you can’t shoot them in the 880-900 range but I have multiple rifles that are stellar with 18 and 22 gr AEA at 965-980 fps.

I'm not trying to stir the pot here. Your rifle is shooting fairly well, but I think you are not getting optimum accuracy from it. We all are being led to believe that faster is better, and IMO, that's not so with pellets because they are stabilized not by spin, but aerodynamically. When they approach Mach 1 (1100 fps), the air begins to develop shock waves around the airflow path of the pellets. I shoot 100 yd with my M3 and it really likes AEA 45 gr pellets better than JSB. Mine it tuned to shoot them at 890 fps. Another fellow shooter shoots Zan 56 gr pellets which work well at 860 fps. We shoot in very windy conditions. I'm just guessing, but I still would try to shoot pellets at less than 900 fps in your rifle to see if your accuracy improves. I have a 25 cal Wildcat MK3 shooting 25.4 gr pellets extremely well at 100 yd at a speed of 890 fps.

Not my rifle :) and I agree 100% with what you’re saying, AEA 34gr (.25) work better for me at around 905 compared to faster. And I have one rifle that hates the 18gr at 960 but loves them at 895. I guess I’m trying to say that while 880-900 seems to be true for almost all pellets, the AEA might be the exception, at least out of some guns.

Did you go on you-tube and watch all the different videos about the gun, especially the barrel and tube?
I would suggest that before taking a heat gun to anything.
Theres a lot of good information before ruining anything?!
Yes I watched all I could find. Dyno Gunner has several videos of the Mora but he doesn't show how to remove the end cap.

No slugs, I am trying to practice with pellets for the PAC in September.
