.25 JSB KING HEAVY MKI VS MKII 33.95 GR head size comparison

It has taken me several weeks but I have now completed sorting approx 12 tins EACH of JSB MKI and MKII pellets for head size. I reported on the MKII outcome a few weeks ago, resulting in approx 50% measuring 6.37, 30% 6.38, 15% 6.36, and the balance 6.35 with a couple of 6.39s thrown in. Each tin varied across the entire size spectrum.

The King Heavy MKI results were vastly different. Each tin was much more consistent in head size. They usually didn’t exhibit but a few pellets that were not more or less than two sizes: either 6.36/6.37 or 6.37/6.38. As you can see below, out of 12 tins, very few were 6.35, and there were no pellets outside of the 6.35-6.38 range.

Contrary to the MKII pellets, approximately 60% were 6.36, 25% 6.37, and most of the balance 6.38.

Next I am going to split them by into lots within .10 Gr limits and by head size. I will then test them with at least 4 different .25 rifles and compare the results with the MKIIs under the same conditions.

Will follow up in a few weeks.

I like to “practice with purpose,” lol.

I was doing head size and weight sorting long enough that I got sick and tired of it.
Over the last winter I invested into a pellet sizer and bought several in .22 and .25.
From a start of this year season I tried many scenarios shooting 100 meter BR with an Impact MK2 clamped on a one piece rest, and I made a final decision ...
I am convinced that a consystent friction in the liner (comes from a head/skirt ratio) matters more then a weight or a simple head size deviation.
I am re-sizing now only directly from a washed/lubed tin.
