Hello AirgunNation Peoples,
This is a tale of two .25 FX Wildcats Marks TWO and THREE: How Power Plenums and Standard Superior STX Liners change EVERYTHING.. The two main changes are pertaining to velocity/energy and accuracy with the use of slugs. Today, I did some comparative range shooting with both .25 Wildcats MKII &. MKIII @ 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards.
First, on my FX WILDCAT MKII .25 caliber the Huma-air XL Power Plenum and 600mm Standard Superior STX Liner installed upgrades have kept this 2017 model bull-pup up to-date with the abilities of some later model PCP’s geared towards shooting slugs well. The WC MKII was not originally released as being a slug shooter.
Huma-air regulator is set @ 135 bar
.25 caliber 600mm Standard Superior Liner
Chronograph 8-shot magazine shot string with NSA 26.8 grain HP Slugs. Averaging about 984 FPS /57.63 FT. / LBS.
Secondly, on my FX WILDCAT MKIII Sniper 25 caliber the Ernest Rowe 2.5” Power Plenum upgrade and the stock 700mm Standard Superior STX Liner have made this bull-pup a mighty powerful and accurate slug slinging machine.
A.M.P. regulator is also set @ 135 bar.
.25 caliber 700mm Standard Superior Liner
My .25 WC MKIII Sniper is far more powerful than the MKII due to its longer barrel. Also, it is externally hammer spring tension power adjustable, so the HST #1 through 7 setting that evened up the playing field was on HST #4. @ 979 FPS / 57.04 FT. / LBS.
Chronograph #1 through #7 hammer spring tension settings, HST #4 matches the MKII’s velocities with NSA 26.8 grain very closely.
Target setups and 8-shot groups. 8-shot groups were taken because that is the .25 Wildcat MKII’s magazine capacity, 8-shots. So, a full magazine was shot at each range with the WC MKII, and I also shot 8-shot groupers with the WC MKIII.
Wind conditions:
25 yards (MKII left) & (MKIII right)
50 yards (MKII left) & (MKIII right)
75 yards (MKII left) & (MKIII right)
100 yards (MKII left) & (MKIII right)
All targets taken down and organized together.
Conclusion, pretty even results from both different generations of FX Widcats in .25 with the Nielsen Specialty Ammunition’s 26.8 grain slugs. The power plenum extensions and superior STX liners definitely enhances their performances. My .25 Wildcat MKII definitely does not feel out-dated with the upgrades and new tune. Furthermore, the Wildcat MKIII Sniper .25 is barely trying using NSA 26.8 grains because normally I use NSA 33.5 grain slugs @ 960 FPS for 70 FT. / LBS with even better accuracy. Still, it is cool to know it can easily tune down and prove versatile with lighter weight slugs.
