.25 Caliber Springers from Theoben, HW, and Falcon (Beeman)

My favorite all time caliber is the .20 so let's set that aside and see why I like the .25 a lot more than others in a "springer" and by then you'll perhaps have the stimulus check in your hand to blow it on a springer .25 in HW!

I had bought a used and refurbished .25 caliber Webley Eclipse Underlever back in 1999 or so.

I was shooting .177 and .20 and .22 and when I "took the plunge" to .25 I found it was as easy as "rolling off of a log" in a river of extreme accuracy and power I had not ever considered before.

It never missed and the trajectory made my shots CLOSER meaning I'd have to spend the time to crawl closer to squirrels.

Then I got a PCP in .25 (Daystate Huntsman) and followed it with the .25 Eliminator and .25 HW80, .25 HW95L.

HW 95L .25: It's the lowest velocity at MV 595; but easily shoots into the same accuracy as the HW98 .25 and HW80 .25. Up to 35 yards no more velocity is needed than found in the HW95L.

HW98 .25: This is my dream HW98 only from the caliber which in this rifle is 600 fps MV mean and 1 fps SD using HN Field Target Trophy.

HW80 .25: This is a lovely rifle and stock and mounted with ZR mounts and Weirauch 3-9X mil dot scope. Trigger is especially light and set not to change.

This rifle has NO suppressor (no .25 does that I have except the Beeman Falcon PCP) and is quieter than the suppressed HW80K .22 I have. The accuracy is astonishing but the reason I use it LESS is the pellet size means more money to spend (much more) than on a .20 or .22 or .177.

When the PCP is entered (like my Beeman Falcon .25) we are in another world of air and that world is NOT my favorite world. The HW95L .25 is MORE accurate offhand at 35 yards than the PCP Beeman Falcon .25. At a rest do what you may but I never rely on any rest. I always sight in and shoot offhand at all ranges with springers because they LIKE my free hold on my shoulder better than a rest to bounce away from.

To me the .25 is the limit of springers. Mostly you will see slower speeds which brings the pellet to the ground faster. Doping that drop beyond say 40 yards with an HW95L is not practical. The HW80 .25 I have shoots 50 fps faster than the HW95L (649 fps MV) to extend SOME yardage beyond 40 beyond the HW95L .25 but when I shoot the Theoben at 100 yards I realize 60 yards is where I can start hitting small targets with it and NOT any springer.

I'd rather have the springer in .25 instead of the Gas Ram! It is more reliable and it is adequate the same way in accuracy.

In power the .25 doesn't have to go fast to really chew up the turf or trees or steel targets. It is expensive but accurate and cathartic relief to shoot ANY .25 springer!

Some springers are too powerful for the little.177,.22 being a better choice and some are even better to have at.25....20 is also my favorite.

A learning process will sooner or later tell someone that a given springer has a better outcome with a bigger cal; That said,of course you can always tune down or up a springer to meet your needs....the RWS 48,52 55- 6 and so on are good candidates for .25.Springers capable of over 1000fps with a .177 OR .22 are also good candidates for a larger cal.pellet....not that it is always needed, but a good choice never-the-less.

pellet weight is another factor in finding the best choice...I know what springers I would get in .25... all seem to be English or German.....

Thank you for your great write-up.

I like the thought of a .25 springer. I haven't owned one yet. Have you tried the heavy pellets in .177 or .22? Many of them have similar weights available and are still cheaper. They also tend to have better BC's. I haven't yet found a heavy pellet that increased accuracy enough to justify the greater trajectory. Maybe time to try some 25.39 redesigns in the RWS 54!

I’ve ordered a HW 95 Luxus in .25 that should be here this Friday. Hopefully I get a break in the weather here in Oklahoma but the weather forecast is not looking good for this weekend and the next few days. I’ve got an array of pellets coming in and hopefully my Magnetospeed will work on it where I can at least get some velocities of the pellets. I went with the .25 just to have a different caliber plus it will be used mostly for hunting inside of 20 yards and punching holes in paper.

Reading your post got my .25 juices going. Just came in from shooting my HW80k .25. Your right. I was hitting my mark at 81 yds. That’s the snow balls at far end.

I also have a HW 90 .25. Now that’s a different animal. It’s just too hard to cock. Young man’s gun. I’ll keep it, will be my only gas ram. When the .25 hits, it does damage. Crow

I got one!

It became my most often used .25 air rifle by far! By FAR! I have the HW80 .25 which is about 49 fps or so faster and the Beeman Falcon at 800 fps; but the handling and feeling and shooting of the HW95L in the yard out to 40 yards is easy with a scope on it!
