My favorite all time caliber is the .20 so let's set that aside and see why I like the .25 a lot more than others in a "springer" and by then you'll perhaps have the stimulus check in your hand to blow it on a springer .25 in HW!
I had bought a used and refurbished .25 caliber Webley Eclipse Underlever back in 1999 or so.
I was shooting .177 and .20 and .22 and when I "took the plunge" to .25 I found it was as easy as "rolling off of a log" in a river of extreme accuracy and power I had not ever considered before.
It never missed and the trajectory made my shots CLOSER meaning I'd have to spend the time to crawl closer to squirrels.
Then I got a PCP in .25 (Daystate Huntsman) and followed it with the .25 Eliminator and .25 HW80, .25 HW95L.
HW 95L .25: It's the lowest velocity at MV 595; but easily shoots into the same accuracy as the HW98 .25 and HW80 .25. Up to 35 yards no more velocity is needed than found in the HW95L.
HW98 .25: This is my dream HW98 only from the caliber which in this rifle is 600 fps MV mean and 1 fps SD using HN Field Target Trophy.
HW80 .25: This is a lovely rifle and stock and mounted with ZR mounts and Weirauch 3-9X mil dot scope. Trigger is especially light and set not to change.
This rifle has NO suppressor (no .25 does that I have except the Beeman Falcon PCP) and is quieter than the suppressed HW80K .22 I have. The accuracy is astonishing but the reason I use it LESS is the pellet size means more money to spend (much more) than on a .20 or .22 or .177.
When the PCP is entered (like my Beeman Falcon .25) we are in another world of air and that world is NOT my favorite world. The HW95L .25 is MORE accurate offhand at 35 yards than the PCP Beeman Falcon .25. At a rest do what you may but I never rely on any rest. I always sight in and shoot offhand at all ranges with springers because they LIKE my free hold on my shoulder better than a rest to bounce away from.
To me the .25 is the limit of springers. Mostly you will see slower speeds which brings the pellet to the ground faster. Doping that drop beyond say 40 yards with an HW95L is not practical. The HW80 .25 I have shoots 50 fps faster than the HW95L (649 fps MV) to extend SOME yardage beyond 40 beyond the HW95L .25 but when I shoot the Theoben at 100 yards I realize 60 yards is where I can start hitting small targets with it and NOT any springer.
I'd rather have the springer in .25 instead of the Gas Ram! It is more reliable and it is adequate the same way in accuracy.
In power the .25 doesn't have to go fast to really chew up the turf or trees or steel targets. It is expensive but accurate and cathartic relief to shoot ANY .25 springer!
