Not really crazy expansion when as you said the slug hit hard bone. What would be really nice if you could get that expansion on a chest shot on a squirrel or rabbit or other small game. As I have said in the past just any pellet and certainly any slug expansion will kill on a head shot on a squirrel of other small game. What we are looking for is expansion on soft tissue so we can take chest shots for example on grey squirrels we want to recover and not have run offs. I think the FX Hybrid slug are getting better expansion the the typical slugs. Then again the .25 caliber makes a pretty big hole which kills better in general compared to the .22 caliber. Looks like you had a good day squirrel hunting. If you get the chance try a chest shot on the next squirrel hunt and see how it puts down the squirrel. I have not gone squirrel hunting this year but I have been shooting pigeons with my .25 cal FX Crown using the NSA 26.8 grain too and they do pack a wallop. Bill

Thank you Daniell.

May I ask What FPS your veteran is shooting a pellet at that tune?, (any pellet you have handy)

a little comparison info,

many thanks.

910 fps at muzzle. 15 yards away. In a response to another post, someone got very good expansion at a considerably lower velocity. 835 fps at muzzle. 30 yards away.

For my lower velocity guns I've had fantastic performance from Predator Polymags. I use them almost exclusively at close range and low power to avoid pass throughs (like when critter is in front of outdoor furniture.)

Good point however if you look at the slug you can see how it cupped open from the hollow point...not from being flattened against bone. Very different expansion. Additionally, it entered the eye socket...no bone and exploded the brain to unrecognizable jelly. The exit, out of the skull was not a broken crack but huge exploding hole. The neck and spine were a mess of mushy shattered spine and neck muscle.

One other data point. When I posted this on a Nielsen forum a guy posted similar performance from a 26.8 gr. that was going an even slower 835 fps at the muzzle and impacted a squirrel 30 yards away. Color me impressed.

I am Currently shooting the 26g wick Monster Hollowpoint hybrid slugs made by Ratsniperslugs out of my Taipan veteran long..they are the same slugs as the fx hybrid slugs just in .25 cal....and they are freaking Devastating....I dont know why be the 26.8g NSA slugs doesn't shoot good at all out of my Taipan...but it loves the 26g wick Monster and the 34g VK slugs!!

What size NSA slug did you try? Mine likes the .249’s. Do you have a LW or CZ barrel?
