.22 Taipan vet shot Shot string

Over a year later and my Taipan Vet still impresses me. Incase anyone wanted to know what a .22 Taipan vet string can look like, here you go.

This shot string was done using 18.13gr Jsb, in preparation for NSA 17.5gr slugs. .216 work beautifully in this LW barrel.

This is a stock taipan vet with LW barrel. All I have done is lower my reg to 110 bar or so, and adjusted hammer spring.

Thanks for posting, it saved me some time and pellets, although I guess I have a surplus of both these days! My Veteran .22 Standard is extremely consistent in velocity, but I've never run an entire string for shot count. I guessed around 60 from a complete fill, although I seldom fill much beyond 200 bar. Each time I have shot 10 or 12, the ES is almost always 5 or less, so this is very good regulator. And from viewing Ernest Rowe's video on servicing, it seems to be of very robust design and construction, as is the whole rifle.

The max velocity with current reg pressure is around 940-945fps. I could have made the string look prettier, but I also wanted to see how many shots were usable once off the regulator.

Yes the stock taipan reg can be very good. The huma upgrade is sometimes not necessary. I have seen some people have trouble with the taipan reg, but I believe that to be very rare.

Your welcome Roaringwren and elh0102, I enjoy posting shot strings every once in a while. Helps show what a tuned airgun is capable of.

Agree, in fact I would say a reg change in a Veteran is almost never necessary. And changing to a Huma is not necessarily an "upgrade". I put a Huma in my Royale 400, as the FX reg was horrible. The Huma has worked great, no complaints. But honestly, after looking at both in some detail, I prefer the Taipan. Anything mechanical can break, and is also subject to error in assembly or a defective part. But it seems every time a regulator issue pops up, suddenly all the regs by that maker must be replaced with a Huma! Just ain't so. My guess, Huma's rate of returns is relatively low, because that's all they do, whereas all the rifle makers have to come up with a reg as only one of many parts. My two most consistent regs are the Taipan and RAW.

Excellent string sir. And one fine gun Ive had on my wish list. Even though I've had two different pups and not a huge fan, i still want to try one.

Looking at your string, and me being ocd. I would give the hammer spring an 1/8 or 1/4 turn up. Should get rid of that lower first shot. Which was indicated of the 2 higher ones as it came off the reg. May even tighten up the es a tad. Still damn fine in anyone's book.

Even though I currently have no use for a Huma reg, I'm glad they exist incase I ever needed one. Hopefully i never will.

Rj,

I know that ocd so well. I've spent tins of pellets chasing perfection. I had no plans on changing my hammer spring setting. But because of you I just might lol.

It really is an excellent gun. It does take time to get use to shooting a bullpup from a bench. Especially with all that weight in the rear. But offhand or leaning on an object for stability, it feels very natural.
