I found an hour yesterday with acceptable weather, light and variable winds, overcast skies, and used it to work more with my .22 RW HP, comparing slug performance to pellet performance. The distance was a laser range finder measurement of 90.4 yards.
As a simple summary, after playing with about every slug made over the last 18 months or so, and yesterday, adding the Daystate Howlers and JSB Knockouts to the list, I can confirm, at least for my rifle, that the JSB Hybrid pellet is hands down the best performer. It consistently shoots 10 shot groups of sub 1 inch at 90 yards, and drops about 3" less at that distance than the JSB Jumbo Monster Redesigned pellets drop. Yesterday, the Redesigned pellets averaged between 1 1/2" to 2", the Daystate Howlers about the same, but the JSB Knockouts looked like a shotgun pattern.
The FX Hybrids are certainly more expensive, but the results are worth it, particularly in wind conditions, and the windage hold is about the same compared to the Redesigned pellets, while other slugs tested seem to spin out to the right. This allows me to keep the rifle sighted in for pellets as they pretty much shoot one ragged hole out to about 60 yards, and yet use the rifle with the slugs with confidence, with less vertical hold over calculated when using the FX hybrids at longer distances.
Just FYI.
