.22 RAW Chassis NSA 22.0 Gr vs JSB 25.39

A few weeks ago I posted the results after extensive slug testing with my RAW .22 chassis.


The wind dropped down to very minor breeze levels this evening. Retested the NSA 22.0 grain (which was one of the best of approximately 30 slugs tried) against the JSB Jumbo Monster Redesigned. 


The close zero was 18 yards with the slugs. At 50 yards with the slugs it is -.2.


Shot 10 shots each with the same hold point. Amazingly enough, they shot on the same windage plain - dead center to the crosshair R-T-L. 


As you can see from the photo, the slugs shot a tighter over all group with 4 1/2” less drop at 90 yards. Pretty significant in my book. The pellet group still had an outstanding core.

Loving this.

I received an NSA order today including 20 and 23 grain .22 cal cup-base HP’s. Dying to test them back-to-back against the 25.39 grain JSB redesigns.

Great results with NSA! Are the 22gr NSA .217’s? I detuned my RAW Chassis .22 to shoot 18gr pellets @ 950fps and NSA 17.5gr .2175 @ 935ish with stellar results. What amazes me is my zero is set @ 20yds and even though the slugs are moving slower at first the POI is 2 MOA higher than the pellets at that distance. Nice work there.

They are .218. I tried .216, .2165, and .217 as well but the results were not as good.

Thank you for the info! Like I said above, the 17.5gr .2175 fit my breech and lands nice and snug and the other slugs I tried that were not accurate did not fit snugly. Enjoy shooting!

Interesting. The pellets seemed to do very well considering the distance. Possibly the difference in velocity could account for a large portion of the drop difference.

My thoughts are the overall projectile shape difference it's self probably cause the drift POI difference. But then again I also have not woken up the best just getting coffee.

Unless I'm mistaken, the OP stated that there was NO difference in wind drift.

No difference in windage shift from POI is correct. Both groups were shot with the rifle’s power settings the same - no adjustments - velocity difference was a function of projectile’s weight difference and shape. Weather conditions were not a factor - groups were shot back to back and within a couple of minutes of each other.
