Hi
I don't know if I am posting this question in the correct place, if you have any answers I would greatly appreciate it, otherwise if I should post under a different topic please let me know where..
so I have I have been told the predecessor to the avenger in 22 caliber, was back when they came with open sights or you could put on a scope. mine is named American tactical Nova Liberty.. I only use open sights and I can get a group in 2" at 160 yards.. after that they seem to spread out a lot..
#1 so I have only shot Crossman 14 grain and JSB 18 grain pellets.. I have not shot slugs, so first question is if I were to get slugs it appears that they are in .216, .217 and I think I saw .218.. could someone please let me know what size the avenger uses? also I don't know about the various types, but pyramid air has a large selection.. so please any recommendations on what one or ones I should try.
#2 so I don't know that much about ballistics but it appears that if you shoot a slug from a 22 caliber it's got about the same energy as a standard 25 caliber, assuming that the fps are kept the same..then if you move up to 25 caliber and shoot slugs they compare again fairly close to the same energy as a 30 caliber pellet.. so if all that is true, when choosing between the 22 slugs and standard 25 pellets, if you keep the velocity the same and the energy is the same, which is more accurate long range.. I guess the same thing would be true in 25 vs 30?
I have not shot the gauntlet gen 2, it's tempting, especially when they release the 30 caliber.. but I really like the side lever action better than the bolt.. but the gauntlet does have the larger tank.. so any recommendations on 22 vs 25? as both are available in the avenger and the gauntlet?? as far as accuracy? and any thoughts about the gauntlet gen 2 coming out in 30 caliber? And if anyone knows how I can get open sights for either gun would be great.. otherwise I will have to machine a front sight and mount and hopefully get a Williams vaneer notch sight for the rear dovetail.
I don't hunt, so a occasional ground squirrel ot timber rattler is about it.. mostly just target shooting on metal or paper targets..
I wanted to get another PCP and I was trying to decide what caliber and what brand.. I don't have much area in the woods here to go out over 100 yards currently and I do like to target shoot but I was also thinking about a bit more power just in the rare case I needed to knock something larger down, like a rabid coon, or coyote.. it's been years since I had to do that, had a rabid coon come in broad daylight and attack my cattle dog and the next day it was me, and lucky I was close to a fairly big stick to fight him off until my cattle dog put him up a tree.. I didn't know if the 22 PCP would do the job so I got out the old Henry golden boy..
hopefully it never happens again, fortunately I didn't get hurt and my dog was mostly ok and fortunately he was recently vaccinated for rabies and he was fine.. but now they changed the laws in our state, so firearms have to be kept in a safe.. so the quickest thing to grab is the air rifle..
