.22 Marauder Regulator setup.

Tonight after doing the lawn work I've been putting off awhile I decided it was time to finally drop in the huma I've had sitting on my desk for over a month. This is of course after it took just about that long to arrive here from Huma-Air. So far it has been a process of trial and error.

My first attempt to set the regulator resulted in it being to low with the fps just above 600. Second try got me up to 780's, and the 3rd with it set at 140bar has me at 819 fps with AA 18.1gr. Not sure if at this point I want to try taking it higher or not, and its going to be interesting to see how it all reacts to the SSG. As luck would have it though its going to have to wait regardless since my tank is sitting under 3k and its probably going to take me a few days to find time to have it filled.

Another interesting night of tuning. Finally got a good shot string going even if it is wasteful right at 30 shots.. High was 824, low 815, extreme spread of 10, and a standard deviation of 2. For now its good for pesting or hunting again so I'm going to leave it as is. I may spring for a tube extension and a extended end cap later on.

Safe to say though this rifle has vexed me at every turn in tuning it compared to my .25 cal.

Keep in mind I have only regulated .177's and Prod's, so results may very with a .22?

Motorhead and others have great luck with lightweight hammers. I made a few and just never got the results I wanted. So, I went back to what I know. With an ssg and Huma reg, I run a very free flowing valve (opened way up) and also tp and barrel port. Running this type of setup, I can get over 100 shots in .177 with the regulator set as low as 75-80 bar. That is at 900fps with 10.5gr pellets. Again, not sure what will work in .22, but just some ideas.

If you want to try an opened up valve, let me know. I have a few stock valves laying around I could setup however you want.

About a day ago I just couldn't leave things alone so I did some more fiddling with the SSG, gap wise. Shot count went up to around 40 to 50 and fps stayed around 814. Think I'm going to use the .162 transfer port I bought in it to see how it works. If it doesn't change much then I might just take you up on that offer AJ. I imagine the gains you got on the .177 would transfer over pretty well to the .22 though I don't expect to see a shot count nearly that high.

Oddly enough it seems mine likes Crosman domes as long as I keep it under 900fps. Which at its current setting it shoots around 875fps.

Well, looks like the larger transfer port actually lowered the fps to around 830 to 840fps with CP domes. New idea I have is a bit strange, but may just work. My new idea is slightly warped, but may produce some better results. I'm thinking of maybe trying to use a .25 Valve and transfer port, but to be honest I don't know what difference there is between the two valves.

I've finally had some good success. Reset regulator the other night to 150bar, and today I swapped in a .25 valve and transfer port. Crosman domes went from 903fps to 934fps. The 18.1gr now fires at just over 880fps. Nothing else except the valve and port were changed on this tune, and tonight I'm going to try my best to get it really tuned in for at least 30 shots at 28fpe or greater.

Get the feeling I'm going to be doing a lot of shooting with this in the future.

After some fiddling with the SSG again I got what I wanted. It's shooting 18.1gr pellets in the high 840's to low 860's for 30 shots. That's a good 28 to 29ft-lbs at the muzzle. I could probably squeeze more out of it if I did some tweaking on the valve or took some off inner cavity of the gauge port extension on the regulator. I'm happy with where its at though, and that's all that matters at this point.

Best thing of all though is the predator polymags still group just as good as they did before. So I'm definitely going to be having fun with those soon.
