22 decision

Should I buy a barrel for my maverick. I would only want a 5 600 mm. No Kentucky long guns. My impact 25 is a spot on long range shooter. So I bought the compact 25 maverick when really should have bought 22.

Any suggestions for a good 22 slug gun in the 1k range. I have original wildcat spot on but is only a 50yd pellet gun.would mark III wildcat be a 200 yder?

Of course you can't buy fx guns or kits!

Although they are hard to come by now I would go with the caliber change kit. I purchased the Compact Maverick in .25 and after a few days switched it over to .22 in 600mm. I also own an Impact MK2 and now MK3 so I had the 600mm barrel and just needed the pellet probe. I ordered the slug power kit with the pin probe and that covers .22 and .25. The only thing that was off was the look of the shroud so I purchased the shroud from FX to give the Maverick the official look.

I like to shoot heavy slugs and the 600mm was good but I put on the 700mm and it gave me the extra power I wanted and it shoot better. I was checking online; do it at least 3 times a week, and UTAH AIR had the 700mm Maverick barrel kit in stock so I ordered it. I put the 700mm back on my MK2 and now had the Maverick with the correct shroud.

Just by changing the barrel I gained an additional 15 to 20 fps and the .22 Maverick is easily a 75ft/lb monster. I like the flexibility of having one rifle that bridges the gap of low power to high power and is easily tuned.
I still use the MK2 for raccoons and whatever else is out when I'm on the hunt but it's nice to have the Maverick knowing I can use that as well. My M3 is in .35 and is the bigger game killer; hogs and such and the .35 is pushing over 156ft/lbs.

Agree with @ramtojeep and @qball. You already have the platform and know how to tune them. Get the barrel kit my friend. If you need motivation, Steve Scialli on Instagram @hookedonair has a great feed currently, specifically on the Maverick in .25. I have been applying his wisdom to my .22 and have had fantastic results and believe you can tune your .25 Maverick to shoot the way you want. Is pellets/slugs weight part of this decision? Speed?...

You have stated that you have a "spot on" Impact for "long range". Please define what that means to you.

You have a WC gen1 that shoots "spot on" out to 50yds.

You are wondering whether an WC MK3 can "be a 200 yder" . You now have a gap between 50 and 200yds, or whatever your Impact is "spot on" at long range.

You want to shoot slugs.

You have a 500mm barrel already.

Why do you think you "should have bought a .22"?

Is there a reason you feel that a .25 Maverick and 500mm barrel with the right tune will not fill the gap that you are looking for?

"Guns and kits" are available to those who are patient, or, find them used.

Just trying to wrap my head around the original question.

Why 22? I don't know, just appreciating the flat trajectory & pin point accuracy of the wild cat. The original WC has smooth twist barrel w/ 860 fps. I can amp that but I've been up & down the reg and its accurate and efficient now. 6 mags / refill . It would do a 7th if I had it. It is a crate well into 80yds before wind takes the pellet. I'm happy with its performance.

Impact (gen1) 25 SPAW rebuilt w/ PP, 700 SUPERIOR.zeroed @ 50, moa @ 100, pellet tin @ 150, have killed ground hogs out to 300. Shooting 34g NSA. If the wind allows, I can do the 150 with 33.95 JSB pellets.

Now to ask me why, what, how come; I'm a damned airgun addict. Don't you understand that?😎 I'm never satisfied!

Never ask why, ask, What will you use it for?

All I could say is, since you can't buy FX guns or parts quickly (2 or 3 month waiting list??) I'd look at my options and pick up whatever becomes available first. If you can pickup a barrel kit for $400 and it's an acceptable choice, go that way. If it's a whole new gun you want, and another brand is acceptable, I don't have a good sub-$1000 suggestion. Closest is a Dreamline, but those run $1400 and up. Or, go cheap and pick up an Avenger for $350 and dedicate it to a slug gun. Unfortunately you might consider that a Kentucky Long Gun.

good luck! Someday used FX guns will be a plenty, but not today.
