.22 Caliber Weihrauch HW100 T Performance Review

Many on this forum and on YouTube have done a terrific job of describing the function and attributes of this rifle. This review is 100% about accuracy, performance, and feature likes/dislikes.

Arriving last Wednesday from Krale after only three days from the date of the order, many of you may have seen my post about the initial air leak. It turned out to be a loose shroud and was easily fixed. My guess is that I contributed to the issue when I screwed the moderator in place. I am confident this issue is permanently addressed.

As I make the following comparisons, keep in mind that my pcp exposure to date has been the Air Arms S410 and S510 Rifles, the RAW HM1000X, and Daystate Red Wolf, and the FX Impact.

The dislikes:

  • as you will see in the following exhibits, the regulator drops off on the 27th shot. Not much shot count, though as accurate as this platform is, for hunting use, I shouldn't ever need two magazines to take a limit of anything.
  • One can't get a patch worm in from the breech to clean the rifle's barrel due to the narrow magazine slot. Not a big deal as one can come through with a loop system from the muzzle end, or utilize felt cleaning pellets, but it is not nearly as easy as all of my other rifles to get the bore spotless
  • The probe fill system isn't as easy as the standard foster fitting

The likes:

  • The trigger is perfection in motion
  • The rifle produces +/- 33 ft lbs as shipped, and is deadly accurate
  • I love the way the magazine locks into position and its low position due to the bore, keeping the scope mounted low to the bore.
  • The anti-double feed mechanism is terrific
  • It is rather pellet friendly
  • It is appropriately quiet with the provided moderator

You can see how well it shoots by looking at the supplied images below. At 18 yards, all but one of the tested pellets 10 shot group averages of <.30 inches C-T-C. At 50 yards, the accuracy and core groups were very good. I even shot one group at 90 yards that measured approximately 1 1/4."

I'm certain the shot count could be increased if I would turn down the power, but the rifle is shooting so accurately, and even with the 21.66 Gr Baracuda Match the hold over is only 4M, so I believe I am content to live with the shot count.

This rifle is a dream to shoot and I am certain it will last for generations. It is a fun addition to my collection. Now, if I could only find one in .20 caliber....

I've had 3 HW100 rifles, and they are great. Regarding the patchworm cleaning, yes, with the standard button it's almost not possible. Try removing the button and using a larger patch. I clean mine almost exclusively by removing the barrel, since it's easy to do. Then, just unscrew the silencer and use either a pull through or a rod.

Shot count. Yes, like most European rifles, it is designed on a 12 fpe platform, so our demand for power becomes an issue for shot count. I recently detuned my .177 carbine, turning down both the reg and HST until I found a balanced tune at around 14 fpe. I haven't done a complete shoot down, but I know the count is significantly increased, I'm estimating 80+, from a fill to the reg set point. The good news, this rifle is easy to tune, so just grab your tool kit and chrono and have fun!
