.22 cal slug vs .25 cal slug

Like 6gun said, as that wet noodle barrel system gets longer, you have new things you have to address. If you need more than 700mm, maybe just consider grabbing a trusty .22lr.

I've even learned that the power I have is uneccesary. It will go thru a varmints skull, and depending on slug(nsa) goes thru most plywood back stops I put up. It took 2 or 3 hits on the same spot to get get the 1.25 inch cdx at 80 yards. I am the worst at the power chasing bug from airguns to engines. Im just learned to settle down

Yes, just like most things, the law of diminishing returns applies to airguns. But it takes lots of dead animals at various speeds, weights and calibers to start to see the light. God bless the guy who gets a good accurate consistent setting and just makes do with it by adapting. I found it easier just to have several guns because if your seriously anal, no one gun will make you happy for everything.

I’m going for accuracy and precision first then power. I was reading that some guys were having phenomenal accuracy with the .25 cal slugs so I wished I’d went that route

I currently have 2 DRS rifles a 25 700 and a 22 700, they both have slug power kits, carbon fiber barrel sleeves installed on the slug liners, they are equally accurate.
The 25 caliber will easily shoot a 40gr H&N 980fps with the reg @155bar , my 22 only shoots a 40gr H&N 950fps with the reg @170bar.

That's why I shoot the .218 34gr at 985fps with the reg @162bar.

Your Impact should easily do that as mentioned previously.

According to Stelok that is 73ftlbs at the muzzle and retains 55ftlbs at 100 yards

That’s wild. I’m working on tuning mine. Should have saved $100 and not have Utah do it.

So far I’m 930 at 150 bar. I’ll keep working. Do you get more shots on your .25 with it being at a lower reg pressure?

I get about the same number of shots with both guns, 15 to 18 per 230 bar fill

thats not bad. I was hoping for a few more shots like at least one mag maybe 2 mags. idk how many fills i can receive off a 9L 4500 psi tank

also the .25 cal H&N have a higher BC than the .22 cal H&N

You should get way more shots from your Impact, it holds almost twice as much air.

I will give it a chance this weekend. I really liked the power the H&N 25 slugs have. I plan to go to the precision slugs once I’m out of these airmarksman. Pyramyd Air is minutes away so I usually can get slugs next day.

I would focus on learning how to properly tune your Impact instead of jumping to another Caliber already. A 22Cal Impact should have plenty of power for longer ranges to take down pests. Not as much as a 25Cal obviously, but it wont matter if you dont understand the details of tuning. To give you some real world feedback, my 500mm 22Cal barrel has been on several FXs and has taken down pests out to about 100yds with a tiny Nielsen 17.5g slug doing about ~980-1050fps. No tungsten hammer or high reg pressures needed, but a bigger slug would be even better at similar speeds.

I would try to stay away from the Tungsten hammer weight and keep your reg setting in the 140Bar range with a stock setup. My big slugger was a 25Cal 700mm with a slightly heavier Huma hammer weight and I had full control over 150-155Bar which you might find impossible with a Tungsten. Point is you dont need the biggest slugs and biggest Cals to be effective out pretty far. The key is to have a well balanced tune and the correct ammos, as others have already pointed out there are awesome slugs in the mid 30s.

If you cant tune a 22 you cant tune a 30.

Find me a squirrel/coyote/jackalope that survives a 30gr xlhp 2175 slug at 980. A 23gr at 980 will drop anything small game related at distances beyond 100y no problem.

You have to get the gun tuned proper.or you wont have positive results no matter the caliber. You cannot volume knob the controls and expect anything to come of it. max max And the valve adjustment far out the knob begins to wobble will not create power. Only disappointment.

Take aim airgun ammo. He makes them (boattail HP) for .22 in 30/34/40.
Very high bc.

His dish base 26s are over .11
