22 cal Mako Slugs - Would people be interested?

First, would you as a buyer be interested in purchasing a 22 cal slug that doesn't need blazing speed to effectively open up? When I mean effective, I mean slugs that open up in the upper teens to low 20s FPE range.

Okay this is a surprise surprise, but I am holding off on getting the RTI Prophet Performance Compact until end of year, and purchasing ctshooters Uragan Compact in .22 cal. Also, I thought to give slugs a try in UC but want it on the slugs effective on the lower power / speed limit for safety reasons. The only slugs I could think of are the Mako slugs made by Precision Ballistics out of the UK. PB makes slugs that are effective in the sub 12 FPE market in the UK in 177. I wanted to see if they make .22 cal slugs. I didn't see 22 cal slugs on their web page so I sent an email to find out if they did, websites aren't always up to date, as we all know.

Well, after about 30 minutes I received an email from Geoff at PB. He said PB does not, at this time, make slugs in 22 cal. However, they are thinking about it and asked me some market research. I said in the USA there would for sure be a market for the specs (as before) mentioned above, and would be safer for use in farm and closer spaced areas where a standard slug isn't. Apparently, Geoff and I are on the same page and I think many here are too. Geoff and I exchanged a few emails and so I thought to expand thoughts and post here.

So again, what do you think. Is there a market for 22 cal slugs that effectively expand in the in the mid upper teens to low 20s FPE range?

P.s. I don't know if the slugs can stabilize at the energy levels I want but I am thinking 50 yards and below use.

I am not a likely customer but I expect others will be wondering about the approximate weight of these slugs. I assume somewhat lightweight so the velocity at the ~20fpe level will be adequate to promote expansion.

I guess that’s what makes it an interesting design challenge. For example the FX Hybrid slugs have a large cavity to bring down the sectional density, yet they still weigh 22gr. At 20fpe it’s leaving the muzzle at a leisurely 640fps and is below 600fps at 50 yards...not a lot of speed to help with expansion.

@nervoustrig I did the calculation for a 15.5 grain slug and for 18-20 fpe the speed needed for that is mid 700, which might work. From Ponty Pool's videos the 177 slugs seem to open up pretty well at sub 12 fpe. I figure if you can get the speed up to 700s for a 15.5 grain 22 cal that can actually expand to the point of a slug traveling 75-100 fps more, then you have a game changer.

@Gelm.chally yes NSA is the big player in the room and everyone even FX has to compete against them as an underdog.

however for NSA their bread and butter is high power and high velocity. For near term I see PB being able to get in a niche market for the ppl who want to use slugs but stay away because of the power and down range safety associated issues when using slugs, especially 25 cal and up.

Again PB is talking about designing testing and selling slugs for the lower power range of FAC rated 22 cal and maybe 177 cal rifles. From what I have seen so far their sub 12 fpe 177 slug seems pretty accurate out to 35’yards. Pointy Pool on YouTube showed some results at 35 yards with Mako 177 slugs and they seemed to hold their own against the Hades from the grouping stand point.
