22 Cal Benjamin Trail NP2 test, Fresh Kill Large Boar Skull

Ok, so here is a Vid I made this morning Warning Graphic
Shot was taken at 20 yards using crossman hollowpoints
The kill was made about 1:30 am and the test done about 9:30 Am
I also off camera took another shot at about 10 yards with same result
Sorry for shakey camera wife refused to help
For those who don't want to see the results both shots went into skin but
Did not go through skull

P.S
I said large Boar but in reality it would be a medium size, this guy didn't even have any cutters to speak of so he is maybe a year and half old.
He weighed in at 180 pounds,
I have seen test like this done with dry skulls or skinned skulls, neither would be accurate.
You saw how hard it was for my knife to cut the skin, that is a sharp knife.
A .30 or something bigger maybe.
By the way for those that might be wondering I had to discard him because my shot nicked intestinal and I didn't know it, its hot up here and he was already swelling in that short of time. I hate wasting meat so I decided to use him to test some air rifle shots.

Final conclusion.... if he hadn't been dead already he would be one very dangerous angry animal with a headache and i would be in a tree wishing for a bigger gun.

Very good information on what that gun cannot do. I look forward to further testing with pcp's etc, but the info should help stop needless shots on live game with underpowered guns. Carcass testing is a great way to see what it would take. I think I'd want something that would easily go through both sides with energy to spare. Thanks for the great info. And maybe next time you can get your wife to hold that dead boar steady for you😂 haha. I know mine wouldn't help with that either. I still have to bait her hook!

No, been thinking of building one,
I actually kind of had an idea this would happen, I have seen 9mm bounce off a boar skull.
Large boars have a very hard head and have shields covering their sides over the vital areas. You would be amazed at just how strong it can be.
The issue isn't really the speed or fpe its the pellets. They do not make a ballistic tip for the 22 and the lead is to soft to carry the penetration through the hide and past the bone. Both boar and sow have a thicker layer of skin, fat and musle between the eyes that absorbs a lot of the energy.
