.22 Beeman R9 Gold Finger Performance & Maintenance Check-up

This evening I found time to pull my .22 Beeman R9 Gold Finger rifle out of the vault and perform the annual performance and maintenance check.

First cleaning the barrel, I found it to be dirtier than anticipated. This rifle prefers the Predator GTO 11.75 gr lead free pellets. I didn't expect it to be as fouled as it was. About six patches run front and back using the Patch Worm, followed by a pair of felt cleaning pellets doubled up back to back, and it was bright and shiny.

Next I checked all of the stock screws, they were tight. Using my digital torque wrench, I checked the screws on the Sports Match mounts and found a few of the scope screws actually too tight. I brought all of them into spec.

I checked the lubrication at the pivot points and all seemed to be as it should be.

I tuned this rifle in 2021 utilizing a Vortek PG 4 Steel HO Kit and Vortek seal. The trigger also has been totally disassembled, polished, cleaned, and lubricated. I tested close to a dozen different pellets before settling on the Predators.

Moving to the indoor 18 yard range, I checked zero and made some adjustments, resetting the turret caps to zero once done. I then shot the two ten shot test groups found below. With the exception of the one flyer shown on group two, given the light 11.75 grain pellet and the 15+ FPE, I was pleased. This rifle is extremely smooth to shoot with no "buzz" evident.

Thanks for the kind words Ramjet. I am fortunate to have a nice indoor range at home and access to as long as 150 yards indoors at another location, when I feel like packing stuff and spending 30 minutes to setup and tear down on the weekends. I also have just short of 90 yards outside my back door with neighbors that like to shoot or at least are tolerant of my hobby, and I belong to a beautiful member owned rifle and pistol club with many berms and covered benches just fifteen minutes away offering up to 250 yards.

I don’t take the fact that I have all of these options for granted. It is also great to live in Indiana, a state that recognizes the Secind Amendment for what it is.
