2023 - N50 Nationals info thread

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I have questions about the 2023 event and assume the schedule might be similar to the 2022 event?

1) Will there be onsight air compressors for shooters to fill their portable tanks?
2) If a competitor wanted to shoot all 3 classes would their be time between classes to fill their portable tank? Since someone may be driving a long distance to the event it would conserve more space to pack a small peanut tank instead of a large 60 minute SCBA tank.
3) When does the event sign up begin?
4) How much is entry fee(s)?
5) Does the entry fee cover one class or all three classes?
6) Is there a fee to enter the Whittington facility or does the match fee cover that?
7) At which range do you shoot the match?
8) Is there onsite food concessions available?
9) How far is the parking area from the range? Does one need a cart of some sort to schlep their gear?
10) At past events what has the temperature range been?

I will jump in and share my experience. I have gone twice to N50 and have shot exactly two competition matches (those two N50 meets at Raton)

Entry fee for 2021 and 2022 was 150.00 for the first class you sign up for, then 50.00 for each additional class.

No gate fee for the Whittington Center, iirc. I get a log cabin on site and camp out and cook over a grill. with my carpool guys. Basic cabins are about 40.00 a night. Bunk beds, bathroom and shower. There are fancy cabins available with amenities.
There is a place to order burgers and hot dogs, but it is not close to the range. The range is the COORS building range, #4 on your map.

I have a 45min SCBA tank that i take full and I refill it overnight between day 1 and day 2. Each class shoots three cards a day.

My gun I used is not a particular air hog, I can shoot 2 cards plus a lot of sighters on the pressure plateau.

The cards are 25 shots in 20 mins with 15 mins prep time. There were several pumps and tanks around last year. I take a YH pump and a 12v portable as a backup.

Late August temps are pretty mild. They can reach the 90's, but this is high desert and the humidity is generally pretty low. Temps will be from the 60's to the mid 80's most of the time.

There is direct drive up access to the benches. Most guys drive up, unload and then move their car to the parking area.

Raton is about 10 miles away and is a pretty small town. It has a few sit down restaurants (stay away from El Matador!) and the usual interstate town fast foods. Dominos, MickyD, Taco Bell, etc.

Tim,

1. Yes there will be compressors.
2. The schedule you posted above will continue to be the schedule. You can see the time in between. I would suggest not trying to save a square foot of car space by bringing only a peanut tank. It will cause you to have to run around when you don’t need to.
3. We will post a sign up link pretty soon. You won’t miss it.
4. I think entry was 150 for first class and 50 for each additional.
5. See above
6. Your entry covers the Whittington center fee.
7. Coors Benchrest range.
8. There is onsite concessions available but this past event you had to drive to the clubhouse because they had other events going and did not have the manpower to be onsite for them all. This year we will likely just have pizza, sandwiches, etc delivered from town each day. Your entry fee also comers the awards dinner on Sunday.
9. You can pull right up to your bench and unload your car. The 75 bench range is about 200y long.
10. Days can be up to high 80s…night will be cool and maybe dip into the 40s or 50s.

Thanks to Jim for posting additional info above.

Mike
