2021... Where are we going with Airguns?

Unfortunately, with an incoming Harris/Biden administration. I see for 2021 and beyond, an attack on airguns, and of course on powder burners. Especially anything semi automatic. I forsee a push to classify airguns as real firearms. Just like they are here in New Jersey. That would mean an end to buying an airgun and having it delivered to your house. I would not be surprised that all ldc, moderators, silencers, etc. be classified as tax stamp items, or outright banned. As well as sound moderating barrel shrouds. I can even see the purchase of airguns and ammo online be banned. This may not all happen in 2021. But it will get started.

Locker - IMO this is an extreme viewpoint. First - the new administration has so much stuff to clean up from COVID and the last 4 years that gun rights will be way down the list. Second - I've been reading and hearing this same sentiment for the past 30 years yet our airguns in the USA are still considered toys by the feds.

And sorry to say but NJ is basically the dumping ground for NY and CT's waste. No one really cares much about NJ outside of people who live in NJ. I even lived there for a few years in Jersey City and it was fine at the time in my 20s. I certainly wouldn't buy real estate in NJ. No offense directed at you as an individual - just an overall sentiment. I don't see the rest of the US fashioning laws based on NJ.

Not to say it won't happen, but I've seen nothing but conjecture and speculation on this issue.

Listen. I hope it doesn't happen. But, if you think for one minute that the anti gun left, especially if they win the Senate and have complete control, will not try to regulate all firearms, you need to wake up. They have clearly stated their intentions regarding guns. And what they outright say is only a beginning of what they really want to do. Don't for a second think airguns will slide under their radar.

IMO, the cost and inconvenience of tanks, compressors, etc. is one of the biggest hurdles to the potential pcp purchaser. It's hard to get your brain around spending $300 on an entry-level rifle, and then having to spend twice that for a decent air source.

The improvements we've seen in pcp rifles, while very significant, have been largely incremental--a tweak here, improved engineering there. Unfortunately, it looks like improvements/cost reductions in air sources may require larger leaps in technology, or the application of a technology not currently in use in the airgun world. That's harder to pull off, but would radically change the airgun market by opening the door to new purchasers.

Get back on topic lol. You know they ain't planning to take all your projectile weapons away!!

The regulation of airguns is coming regardless of whom is in power. You can pretty much count on that. I have talked and listened to people in the know and my understanding is that the Airgun industry itself is working on regulation. The idea being that if "we" regulate ourselves, we can control said regulation and keep big brother at bay. Anyway, that is an over-simplistic statement, but pretty much the basic idea.

Personally I can care less for Semi Auto and specially Full Auto airguns. While it is very cool for 5 minutes, it will just accelerate and invite trouble. Either way I have resolved not to live in the future, not worth it. Lo que sera, sera.....

Ok. Stay asleep, and see what happens.

You are smart. And know what's coming.

Just hope slug shooters shoot at a gun range or minimum distance of 100 yards where there's very long distance safety backdrop several hundred yards past the targets. Only takes one idiot to shoot a bird off of the wire in his urban backyard neighborhood not realizing it's like a 22 Rimfire short who knows where it's gonna travel and damages result what it hits. Then you see it on TV start with local municipal regulations no more BB gun shooting in your very own back yard.

Exactly right. We are our worst enemy sometimes. Then we don't show up at municipal hearings and voice our opinions. Then incrementally we lose our rights.

I said that because earlier I mentioned the possibility of gun confiscation and was told to get back on the subject.

Someone else mentioned that nobody would go to town meetings etc. and because of this we would lose rights.

We the people, after elections, are bystanders and have zero influence over any decision making.

It's kinda like living in a sudo-dictatorship, but at least we get to vote in one big election every four years that is totally not rigged.

Good luck people; we are going to need it.

Glad you understand what a dangerous, scary place we teeter at.

Christian- No last ones purchased in transit are a 22 HUMA Regal and 20 HUMA Regal and 20 Air Ranger unregulated. The new side lever Reveres Just too new to get good deals on. Remember now I am a bargain shopper. Even my last 25 new LCS SK19 bought as a $200 off brand new blem with a chip in the plastic cheekpiece that doesn't affect performance nor the several hundred buck off new Renegade with few specs on the stock finish.

The advantage of regulated Regals vs unregulated are much easier to cock than unregulated versions and dual manometers.

It you shove in your own aftermarket DIY HUMA install your manometer will only read reg pressure so you gotta count your shots for the Renegade and Regal XL.

Noticed ease of cocking with my newer 177 HUMA Regal vs my older 22 unregulated Regal.

I don't see it being difficult cocking an unregulated Revere due to its mechanical side lever advantage vs rear bolt action Regal.

You know, if self-regulation of airguns works then we should be good. This sounds very similar to the self-regulation of airsoft in the UK. In order to buy a non two-tone replica airsoft gun you need to have a UKARA registration. You can only get this by playing a certain number of games at an official airsoft field a certain numbers times over a certain period of time (can't recall the specifics). It definitely cuts down on the number of people who qualify for the Darwin Award with the stupid things they do.

The one thing I don't want us to lose here in the US is our freedom to "plink" in the back yard.

IMO if airguns get regulated as firearms, you can just say goodbye to the airgun industry pretty much overnight. At that point people would either buy real guns or not bother.

Please understand that I don’t know any particular details of what may or may not be in the works. I am pretty confident that the people working on this stuff are actually putting airgunner’s interests first. Furthermore, I know that they actually are thrilled with the direction that the industry is taken in power, accuracy, and automation.

Airguns are ALREADY regulated by law in the USA. They are NOT firearms but are still subject to laws and regulations in the books and depending on usage (hunting, pesting, etc.). I don’t understand the “hair pulling” and “teeth gnashing” over laws and regulations that already exist. That they can be more onerous? Yeah maybe? So be vigilant and pro active, not alarmist.
