2021... Where are we going with Airguns?

Not sure where the industry is planning on going. Maybe that is what you are asking about?

Me personally, I would like one more BIG airgun purchase. It’s a total dream gun and very task specific but I would LOVE to buy a FWB 800W or an Anschutz 9015 Black. I could be happy with either one.

Next up would be a repeater pistol with power enough to hunt if needed. Not sure what caliber I would like but leaning towards 177. There is just something about 177 that I like. I’m not really sure what I would want though. I like the Ataman AP16, HW44, FX Ranchero and pp750.

I would like to continue to upgrade some of my scopes on guns I already have and I plan on making some walnut clothes for 1-2 and possibly 3 that I already have blanks for. I really like the CraftsmanVit coral snake stocks for the HW97 guns. Thinking about one of those maybe. I’d like to see a sale on them and I would probably jump immediately if there were.

I’m on a paradoxical and rather oxymoronic airgunning journey I feel.

I want to experience as many different airguns that call to me as to be able to narrow things down at some point to the bare minimum.

So far, the HW30 will never leave my side. I’m thinking that the HW95 is also a keeper. Both in .177. I hope to have a handful of guns that carry me into my 60s and beyond. Perhaps 3-4 Springers and 2 PCPs. I would love to do a lot of traveling around the country at some point and a huge collection isn’t practical in that case. We shall see.

Yes!!!

Admirable. You have shared your journey with us and we continually appreciate your insight.

Thank you.

After about 4 years now being seriously back into airgunning I've had my chance to 'try out' enough airguns to know what I like and what I don't. For 2021 I plan to become extremely proficient with the handful of air rifles I now have left. Nothing against those with 20, 50 or even 100+ airguns but if I have too many I find I never become a master of any - and I'm a user not a collector.

So here are some realistic 2021 goals for me:

- Sell off more unused ammo, optics and accessories.

- Keep an eye out for a good used .177 FT rifle.

- Maybe get an Uragan Compact

- Resist impulse purchase urges.

But I think the OP was referring to the industry as a whole. I'd like to see:

- Better QC overall on expensive airguns.

- More pistol designs that can compete with the AP16 and HW44s. It seems there is a gap in quality PCP pistols between lower end and match.

Hopefully better quality heavier duty o-rings and valve seal poppets. Don't even need to mention names from these 2 companies.

I think the key to this issue is improving quality control all through the manufacturing process from machining to assembly.

New rifles shouldn't leak from the factory and especially as the price of those airguns goes up. There's an expectation that the quality would go up as well.

When I got into PCP's about 8 years ago, the Marauder was still king of entry level PCP's. No longer. It's been a wild ride, and I LIKE IT!

I think you'll see more improvements from FX. Not sure what Frederick has floating around in his brain, but so far, it's been great!

You'll see more and better entry level PCP's. The Avenger is a great example. More features for the $$, more of everything on the low end of the spectrum.

I'd like to see better "Infrastructure" components, meaning better, less expensive air tanks, better, less expensive air compressors, and such.

The revolution in less expensive, higher quality scopes will continue. While scopes today are, in my opinion, better than anything I had in my youth, I expect quality to continue to improve and costs to remain steady or decline a touch.

I also expect people to continue the move to slugs. better accuracy, power, and such mean slugs will continue to move into the mainstream.

All in all, I expect another banner year!

I’d love to see solid, reliable, and affordable (under $800) compressors. The smaller, more portable ones, but like I said, with solid reliability. I’m not too keen on the current ones. Maybe the Hill, but the jury is still out and anything AV gives me pause.

As for scopes, I would like to see more Airgun Specific ones. Shorter range, Springer rated, side focus.

Unfortunately, with an incoming Harris/Biden administration. I see for 2021 and beyond, an attack on airguns, and of course on powder burners. Especially anything semi automatic. I forsee a push to classify airguns as real firearms. Just like they are here in New Jersey. That would mean an end to buying an airgun and having it delivered to your house. I would not be surprised that all ldc, moderators, silencers, etc. be classified as tax stamp items, or outright banned. As well as sound moderating barrel shrouds. I can even see the purchase of airguns and ammo online be banned. This may not all happen in 2021. But it will get started.
