2020 biggest disappointment purchase...EO Helix Scope

Disclaimer: If I offend anyone with these comments not intended, but this is just my view / opinion / experience with the Element Optics Helix scope.

Okay, earlier this year I purchased a Element Optics Helix SFP scope for my Impact Compact MK II PP. I got on to the bandwagon of Matt Dubber and the new company EO and all the hype around their products and value for money. So I purchased a EO Helix scope, and I know some people love them, but I got disillusioned very quickly with it and it lasted 2 months on my Impact before I put it up for sale. The scope sold in a trade and cash. The guy I sold the scope to, then had the same disappointment and in less than a week sold it on to someone else. Where the scope is now I have no idea.

Anyways, I am not an expert on scopes, but I agree with Cyclops Joe, it is a ok scope for the money, but not near the best. I found the eye box irritatingly small and though decently clear glass, definitely not glass equal to scopes 1.5 to 2 times the price. Of course, any of the FX boys will say how great the scope is for the money. For me, I will give the Helix an OK, and decent quality for the money, but I don’t recommend it if you are going to get one and wait for the gen 2 FFP coming out and see if the flaws of the Gen 1 SFP are solved.

Flaws: SMALL EYE box and center of gravity of the scope bit too weight forward (yes I know large piece of glass there) and low light capability is nothing compared to my .223s similar category Leopold.

If I make it to the USA next month I am going to go to some gun shops and see what I can get for $500 price range because that comes out to 400 euros with the current exchange rate. :D

Maybe the Titan and Nexus are worth the money, but I am might look elsewhere from now on for the money.

@odoyle, yes I know I know!!! Buyer remorse on some levels (IMHO) is aka "feeling stupid!" I am seriously going to take your advice and keep my eye out in AGN Classified for a good used Leupold, but I have to wait until I am certain I am going to USA in a few weeks.

Value for money, my best purchase this year is my 25 cal Taipan Veteran Compact, but I got a pretty decent discount on it from a contact in the Czech Republic. Also I have to be patriotic and have a CZ made gun because, I am half Czech (grandparents were born there)

My Leshiy 2 is amazing, but still, I think the Taipan Vet is better value for money.

@shoot44 You are 100% correct and anything comes down to personal preference. And how I define personal preferences is what does and doesn’t bother you about the product you use for how you use it, i.e. hunting vs. bench. What is from terrible to great can really / solely depend on the user’s point of view (non-bias) and what works for them.

I actually really like my helix. I’m not a bench rest shooter (but would like to if I didn’t have to drive so far to do it). However, I pest a lot on several farms and I love the reticle and the accuracy I achieve out of my gun with this scope. The eyebox doesn’t bother me and I feel the glass is just as good as my hawke frontier. Just saying.
