It was a good compromise back when there were not many airguns that shot 22 cal as fast as 177 cal pellets. These days there are many airguns that will push a 22 cal as fast or faster than 177 cal so I don't see any advantages over a 22 cal. It offers more power than a 177 but there are so few pellet choices so that's canceled out because you can get 177 cal pellets as heavy or heavier than what's available in 20 cal.

the .20 was invented to dope the sub12 market when people were not happy with the brick throwing trajectory of the .22.
the .177 cal is the girly caliber so who wants to man up they go for .20 or .22
LOL

by the way, how come that you guys in the US, shoot rifles with 3x -5x or even higher energy projectiles BUT your ranges are not that extended proportionally?

Depends on necessity. There are a lot of airgunners who target critters from 50 yards to over 100 yards depending on what is being hunted and how close they will allow the shooter.

full power doesnt really give that much more range. your not magically going to start blasting targets at 100-150 meters.

Pellets are only stable for so long. Look at some of the airgunners using slugs, Cedric and Napoleon have hunting video where they are zapping critters at 150-over 200 yards.
