Recently, I purchased a 97K .20caliber on Gun Broker to go with my .177/.22 97K collection. Upon arrival, I cleaned and polished the barrel and mounted an Airmax 8-23x50 scope on it for testing. The cocking cycle was anything but smooth. The gun "dieseled" more than any gun I have ever received. It was advertised as "like new" and never scoped. I believe it. I could see 100 fps variations (and hear it) on the chrono. I only shot a few shots with it as I was worried about damaging it.
I completely disassembled it, cleaned off all previous lubricant, and using 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, and 1400 grit emery cloth, hand polished every component. I installed a Vortek PG3 HO spring kit and Vortek matching piston seal. Using Air Venturi's Tune-in-a-tube red lubricant, I reassembled the gun, using blue Loctite on the stock screws.
Finally, I installed a new Vortex 6-24x50 FFP Tactical Scope, mounted on an RWS Lockdown Droop Mount.
The accuracy results and the improved stability of the power plant were incredible. Four different pellets were tested at 18 and 50 yards. All performed very well, with the JSB Exact 13.73 proving to be the best match for this rifle out of the four tested.
