1st week with the Paradigm down. 😀

Whats your plan?

1. Call AoA, explain the issue, and try and have them replace barrel under warranty, after they test at 100 yards. This is the easiest preferred option

2. Get Pelletgage and sort smallest and largest head size 44g JSB pellets, and test groups shot with each size at 100Y

Might do #2, first but won’t know until I speak with Shane at AoA. We think the pellets might be wobbling from 75-100 Y, and if they are destabilized, this might cause the larger group size. I.e., maybe the smaller head sized pellets are destabilizing?

I should add that your results at 100y and Bill’s results after Derrick tuned his gun, are materially better than mine at 100 yards. Not even close.

Hmmm, keep us posted, I shoot right out of the tin no sorting what so ever, completely factory rifle. Curious as to if a new barrel will fix your issue, what made you conclude it was the barrel?

I shoot right out of the tin also, no sorting. Have not touched/ tuned anything since I got it back in May. Rather than speculate, I want AoA to look at the barrel closely. Bill and I had a detailed conversation about the entire experience I had with the gun, and some of our findings lead us to believe it ‘could’ be my barrel.

I had a Redwolf Safari .25 from AoA which had a bad barrel that Steve B shot and examined after I sent it back. They sent me a replacement under warranty, and it was accurate and problem went away.

Once I get this all sorted out, I’ll post the findings. Don’t want to mislead others on guess work.

Tommy, I hate to sound like an ass, but some barrels are better than others. It’s just a fact of Airgun life. 😞
CT won the barrel lottery, apparently you didn’t. Most are very good. Some are great. And a few are substandard.
I think I've been really fortunate as far as airgun barrels go in each of my rifles, with that said I know of 1 other Evol personally that did actually have a barrel issue and Tom made it right immediately. I am really curious as to the outcome of @tommyb situation because this is all a learning thing for me.

Not at all Mike, I never worry about your advice!.

And, I realize the ‘luck of the draw’ with barrels and airguns. But, after spending $3K+, I want to see what is possible with AoA. If I thought Tom Costan would personally look at it, I would send it back to him.

If someone else shoots much better groups/score with this gun, I would say ‘Uncle’ and work on my technique. But, ALL my groups are way too big to be a coincidence.

Well, we are now in PD/PSI troubleshooting mode. Problem Determination / Problem Source Identification.

Shane ( AoA ) spoke to Tom and they want to look at the barrel, which is exactly what I would like them to do. My factory moderator was also definitely damaged early when I first had the rifle ( see prior pictures), and from the moderator pics in this thread, both Tom and Shane determined I did have a clipping issue which I suspected as well. AoA offered to send me a new factory moderator insert to try. Can't say enough good things about them.

That said, the factory moderator is not causing the "current" accuracy issue because I have not used that moderator at all for quite a while. Further, all of the lousy groups and EBR score targets were shot with the Sumo moderator, which could also be suspect possibly.

I know Tom puts each barrel through a lot of testing, so if that checks out to be OK, then it 'might' be that some 44G pellet sizes just don't shoot great in my Paradigm barrel, hence the inclination to sort with a pellet gage. This was suggested by Bill Crusher, and after he walked me through a scenario with possibly having a pellet wobble due to destabilizing after reaching 75 yards, it's worth a try to sort and shoot small vs. big size heads and compare.

Pretty confident we will eventually figure out the culprit, I hope.

Update:

Spoke to Shane ( service repair ) at AoA today. I am in good hands.

Sending barrel, action and factory moderator back for a thorough physical exam. Tom Costan is directly involved, so I think we will get somewhere trouble shooting the issue. I did have very visible clipping damage on my felt insert ( picture is contained in this thread) with the factory moderator. Not sure why, but at least we will all learn something when the analysis is complete.

Might be several weeks before I get an update back from AoA.
