1st PCP W/no where to shoot

Hey air gunners, I’m thinking of buying a PCP to shoot with. I have a springer but it’s loud. Our city ordinance says no shooting air guns within the city limits. I can set up a place behind house that no one will see. I really have no where else close to shoot. Is it wise to spend $1700.00 and not have much of a place to shoot?

1700 is steep for the 1st pcp. Plenty of great options that come pre moderated for a helluva lot less. Like 90%, of the guns on the market today are pretty quiet. A 177 marauder is one of the quietest guns out of the box. Umarex notos is damn quiet, cheap, accurate, and pretty small so you can hide it easy. I pop squirrels all the time when my neighbor is out reading in her lounge chair and she never hears me. Just sees the squirrel fall into the woods and looks confused as hell!

...easy answer...NO!!!

I’m buying a used Daystate Renegade with scope and a compressor.
I can drive to a place to shoot and can set up a place hidden in back yard for shooting paper targets. I just can’t walk around close to shoot
Oh! If you can drive somewhere and shoot; by all means, yes!🤗
I do however highly recommend asking your neighbors how they feel about your endeavors. *you don't want uniforms showing up😬
I used.to be able to shoot in my current backyard; asked the uniforms and they said they didn't care. Until the neighbor got tiffy about the noise of pellets slapping spinners constantly/other things(jerk neighbors unfortunately).
I've seen/heard lots of goodness about daystate though 🎩🤙

$1700.00 is for used Daystate Renegade scoped out and new compressor with silencer.

I can set up a shooting table on my back porch and shoot into my storage building. I’m setting up a place in there so when pellets it they shouldn’t be loud enough to hear. It will be about 50’ to target.

So legally, you can shoot inside your house. Otjing says you can't shoot inside your house and the pellet go out an open window into a quiet pellet trap in the yard!

Also, if you own the property, it's YOUR property. It's private property, in most places you can shoot on your property providing the pellet doesn't leave your land. At least thats how it is here, my buddy's neighbor is a city cop and we shoot my pcps in his yard along with crossbows and compounds. Now if a neighbor complains, itll get "complicated".

I’ll find an officer and ask about it. Thanks

I used to shoot powder burners and had to drive to a range to shoot them. I still bought powder burners and ammo for them and shot them. So having to drive to a range didn't stop me. But I got into PCPs when I retired in part because I can shoot them at home. Much more convenient. Shooting in my backyard is completely legal where I live. I put moderators on the guns to keep them quiet to keep peace with the neighbors, however. They've asked and I told them what I was doing. The one lady said that her husband shoots his air rifle in their yard some. I got visited by a fish and game officer one day because a fisherman complained I was shooting at them. He told me I was legal but wanted me to move a swinging target where misses would hit a tree instead of going into the lake. I did that and no more issues. I think it was clear to him I wasn't shooting at the fishermen. He saw my targets and they didn't have holes in them so I pretty obviously was not shooting at them (or even close to them).

I don't know the situation in TN but in SC there are public ranges. You should be able to google up some information. I would suspect they exist. In SC they have Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and some of them have public ranges that are free. There is also a federally managed range where you're supposed to put $5 in an envelope in a box when you use it. Or you can buy a yearly pass. I used to belong to a private club with better facilities here and it wasn't very costly. But I let the membership lapse in the confusion when my wife died and have not bothered to get it back. It bothers me that I am pretty sure they are racist and with the public ranges available I just haven't bothered. The limit in my yard is 35 yards so for longer ranges I have to visit a range.

Lastly, there is a page on GTA where they list shoots by state. That can be another way to have a place to shoot at least occasionally normally for free. Plus some other airgunners to shoot with.

Glad I don’t live in the city I can shoot right in my backyard, have 35,50 and 75yd targets and have a huge field next to my house where it shoot groundhogs and if I want to stretch my air rifles legs 100+yds ☺️

Time for Ninja/incognito airgunning or low power 177 tuned way down. Low down as in 3-12fpe.

I would ask around depending on the neighbors lol. I would also proceed with caution and take a couple small test steps first if it were my choice to make (and it is not so you do you lol ) . I would go alot cheaper with a notos and a Chinese pump to start with a super low quiet tune until all were comfortable for less than 350.00 bucks. Then once the waters were clear move up from there haha. you could shoot that thing in the house if you wanted too haha.

Good luck to you either way you chose. ;)
