On, Canada
Walked out my back door walk down porch and notice down by my wood shop I notice a grey nutter Investigating the surroundings. Now this is a no fly zone.
All I could think about was my HW77 .25 which I just scoped in and zeroed it for last 2 days. Gabbed the 77, chase is on. As soon as I got out again he saw me and ran up a tree. I just stood behind a post a watched through scope. Knew approximately where he was. He was watching me. Could see half his head. Hades is my favourite and I sent one flying.

I never saw a tree rat fly out of a tree and land like that. Not a twitch. This is one sweet rifle. Crow

This post makes me reminisce about slamming squirrel skulls with a HW98 .25. Ever since I put a Vortek in, it sounds nice but shoots like garbage. I’m gonna rip that kit out of there and throw the factory innards back on. Smacking 1.5” inch spinners at 35 yards was really fun too.

This 77 is dialed in. The 98 makes me weak in the knee. Love the 98. Crow

All I can say is that I am a bit jealous. After 4 years of averaging nearly 1 a day, so far for 2022 I am not even averaging one a week. I think it is only seven so far to date.

Although I shoot to eliminate pests, after 4 years of target richness, this lack of targets is getting me down. Yeah, I know... eliminating the pests was the goal, but it became much more and now I am looking forward to Spring in the hope that I *might* once again have at least one chance to shoot each day. (chuckle)

I am especially looking forward to the chipmunks coming out of torpor. They are much more of a challenge anyway! (smile)

They are regrouping, be ready. I’m at 21.
I won’t give the nutters a chance on this property. I learned the hard way.
Good luck Crow

BackStop they must be looking for new nests. Had 2 Blacks again snooping around my shop. Got them both, LGU Varmint .22 Hades. Awesome gun. Crow

+ 1 Gray same gun

I am seeing some (never more than one) every few days, but none present me with a safe shot and almost always stay off of my property and/or permissions.

Oh well, Spring is just around the corner. I might shoot some paper just to lubricate the rust on my own shooting abilities! (smile)

Got one gray yesterday. Not sure about the distance as I don't have a range finder and have never measured the distance to the spot where I got this one, but the scope was on 50 yards and past experience with measurements in my backyard tells me it was probably about 45 yards +/- 1 yard.

I'll be the first to admit that it was a lucky shot. Head shot, DRT afaik because it fell from about 40 feet up in a tree and it took me a few minutes to get out and find it.

However, missed one today... 3 times... (heavy sigh) It was in the trees in a neighbor's yard who has given me permission, but I have only been guessing at the ranges and can ONLY take a shot when the main tree trunk is my backstop as I don't know where the pellet might hit if I miss without a solid backstop.

Considering where my shots seem to be coming from lately, I may really need to invest in a range finder as I can't use a tape measure for these safe shots anymore.

Put a target on your neighbour’s tree and get your settings.

2 black again today with LGU. Crow

I can't climb that high and would not be able to see the target at the lower level where I could place it. I have extrapolated the distance from previous measurements, so I am pretty confident about the holdover. I just need to up my game on my shooting as I was rusty from lack of targets since January.

However, they are showing up more since then. Got 3 more in the last couple of days.

Did a little paper target practice recently and was able to get my MOA or less consistency back after about 20 or so shots out to about 45 yards.

It is easy to lose "the edge" if you don't shoot for a long enough time. (smile)

p.s.

Soon the leaves on the trees will block my view/access to these most recent shots.
