1pc mounts

I have a BKL 1pc mount that I had to file down so that my Hawke Airmax 30 scope's belly didn't touch anymore. Now I like BKL but do/would other scope's belly touch them also? Reason I'm asking is because I think I should use a 1pc mount on my RX2 but I'm torn between bkl or sportsmatch. Or should I just go with a 2pc sportsmatch or bkl dovetail mount? Or even a dovetail to weaver adapter with a set of weaver rings? I just do care for weaver rings for some reason though but if it's more beneficial then so be it. So what's everyone's opinion?

I would use the BKL 11mm 1 piece mount for your RX2.

That way you can rest assured it won't budge on the RX.

I had Sportsmatch 2 piece mounts with scope stop plow

through the RX I had. I had a lot of scopes destroyed too.

Get the drooper version if you need it before ordering it.

It is worth the money IMHO and I would file it if the scope

was worthy enough for it.

I wouldn't use any kind of 11mm to Weaver adapters

since there will be more possibilities of creeping on an RX.

BKL 1 piece mounts will absolutely not move when properly

mounted on your gun.

I think most reputable ring/mount manufacturers will give specifications like measurements for the gap between the bottom of the ring and the top of the mount to help determine if you have enough room for the scopes bulge or turret pack, the same usually goes for scope manufacturers. Its possible if one size say low height rings wont work then bump up to the next size that does like medium height.

For example a quick look at the airmax 30 webpage you can guestimate by the technical drawings measurements that the bulge drops approximately .2 to .3 inches from below the scope tube, and another quick check of BKL's website for a one piece 30mm mount, assuming model# BKL-360-MB and the specs for that mount shows the scope turret clearance is only .125 inches. It looks like BKL's one piece mounts have about the the same scope clearance that range from 0.125 to0.180 inches. Another alternative would be say their 2 piece double strap mounts if you need the extra clamping power over a single strap.

LOL.....using only 25 in/lbs of "horizontal base screw torque" the one piece BKL mount started shifting with less than 150 shots on my "tuned to 13 fpe" HW break barrel springer. Using 12 in/lbs of "top strap screw torque" the scope also shifted in the rings...........

I had "shifting issues" with a BKL one piece mount on my 13fpe .177 HW95 (and my Beeman R9) like this even when the "horizontal base screws" were torqued 5in lbs above the BKL recommended 35 in/lbs torque. Scope shifting in the rings was solved by first lining the rings with cloth electrical friction tape but I never could solve the mount sliding with the rather heavy 3-12x44 Optisan Viper scope I was using at that time..........

As a side note, I never had scope to base clearance issues with the BKL one piece mount and any scope I owned.

My solution was to start using UTG dovetail to Weaver adapters and Weaver Quad Lock rings. The UTG mount is one piece (no separate side plate) that "squeeze together" on the dovetail similar to the BKL mount, however the UTG also has recoil stop pins included and 3 different stop pin mounting positions. LOL, with the $14 UTG adapter and $10ish Weaver Quad lock rings mounted the cost for the setup is only about $25...........

The Weaver Quad Lock rings only fit 1" tube scopes, however they do come in different heights (I use high and extra high) which would allow "extra scope to mount clearance" if needed. For scopes with 30mm tubes there are other Weaver/Picatinny mounts in different heights that would work with the UTG base.

Anywhoo.....I haven't had any scope mount shifting with my HW95 or R9 since I started using the UTG Universal adapter. Even the cheap Weaver Quad Lock rings hold my relatively heavy scopes firm with only 11 in/lbs of top strap screw torque!

I recently picked up at Sun Optics dovetail to picatinny mount but it doesn't look like yours Ed, kind of wish it did. It had the typical floating clamp bracket like you would typically see with most rings. So far it seems to be holding up but if it gives me trouble then I will look for the style you have.

Sun also has an adjustable dovetail to picatinny mount that adjust for rear elevation, have you ever tried or seen anyone using one in your ft maches Ed?

"Sun also has an adjustable dovetail to picatinny mount that adjust for rear elevation, have you ever tried or seen anyone using one in your ft matches Ed?"

I have to say that I haven't noticed the adjustable mounts you're speaking of at FT matches, however that doesn't mean that they weren't there.

Many years ago I gave up on adjustable mounts after the hassles I had with a couple brands (B-Square & RWS "C" mount) preferring to simply "bend my HW springer barrels to bring the poi within 1" or less at 30 yards (fine adjustments are done with the turrets) using an optically centered scope.

I bought the SUN mounts. Complex little things, but with work, can be made to work.

The FX No Limits Rings adjust up and down for elevation. Sun mounts adjust up and down, and side to side. Theoretically, if you spend enough time, you could leave your scope optically centered, and just adjust the mounts. I'm using Eagle Vision mounts now, and only adjusts for elevation. Much simpler to adjust and get right. All of them work, but the side to side adds complexity and really, if the barrel and rails are aligned reasonably well, side to side isn't needed (IMHO)
