17gr .2175 slugs in AA S500? Good or bad idea?

Hi all, bought some NSA slugs and was wondering if my new air rifle is powerful enough to push those slugs. I read somewhere that people were saying that the S500 can’t push the 20gr slugs fast enough to be accurate. Would the 17gr slugs do any better? And should I stick with the .217s or change and go for the .216s?

Imo and personal testing with a mid range PCP. If you are unable to get the .216 or the .217 17.5 gr slugs to at least 900 fps then odds are high they won't do well. I was able to achieve 890 to 900 on average and they are accurate out to 100 yards and super devastating on animals.

I am shooting the .216 17.5 grain in my S410SL at 890fps and they are doing good. So far I am only shooting them at about 50 yards. My longest shot so far was 53 yards and the sparrow didn’t know what hit him.

Every gun is different, mine did not like the .217 but shoots the .216 well. I have some griffin deep dish hollow points on the way to try.

More than likely the .216 will work better as they are not as snug, and will allow you to get a higher fps with less friction. Here is a short video of me out on a friends 3 acres in the desert with the .216 at different distances. This was my first attempt at filming and hunting with a new ammo I didn't have a dope card for so forgive as I made a few mistakes lol.

Nice shooting! I emailed Nielsen Specialty Ammo to change my order to .216. Hopefully they work good.

Yeah, those things made it looks like those quail you shot explode lol.

Most were at 50 plus yards. I had some shots I wasnt able to get on film at 80 yards and 95 yards where they were devastating. I got a ground squirrel at 86 yards heart lung and you could hear the smack. I am looking at a more tunable rifle to shoot the 20.5 gr 22 slugs at 940 fps.

There are multiple states you can take upland birds during season with an airgun. Grouse, pheasant, choker, quail, etc.
