177 vs 22 target SMACK

On my pursuit to mouse fart quiet I’m able to get my pcp pretty quiet but target still smacks! Duct seal or rubber mulch same thing. The actual target (paper/cardboard) smacks. Will a 177 be better in terms of anal and diameter of the hole? I’m envisioning a smaller surface area and therefore less of a smack noise or is the difference negligible?

Big difference in down range impact noise as pellet weight goes down, assuming velocities remain the same or less. It is all physics.

Blow across the top of a bottle and it whistles...
Less smack sound? Use Pointed pellets

Or shoot foam and tissue paper.

Yes a 177 will be quieter at the target than a 22. My back yard has proven there is a significant difference in the smack loudness.

As Toasty alludes to a pointed projectile like a slug will be even quieter. 177 slugs are really quiet going into a paper target.

Downside? 177 get pushed around more by the wind. But hey, that gives you more practice with wind adjustments.
