New to airguns long time center fire competitor. Shooting indoors at 23 yards with pellets in the 7.5 to 8,5 weight range. Interested in 50 yds this summer. What experience have you with the 10 to 'll grain pellets in your rifles. Currently shooting most 5 shot groups around .250 plus or minus a little.

I shoot TX200 with JSB 8.4 accurately Most Field Target competitors shoot 7.9 and/or 8.4

My TX200 shoots very well with FX 10.3 grain pellets. I am using the 4.52 head size. I also find it has a more pleasant shot cycle with the heavier pellets. (These are basically the same pellet as the JSB or Air Arms pellets. They are all made by JSB.)
In truth, I am a TERRIBLE shot with springers. But even I can get one inch groups at 50 yards with bucket and sticks.

Get a PG4 kit and seal for the gun. It'll bring it down to just under 12fpe but it will throw 8.44gr at 800fps through the same hole at 25yds all day and still do very, very well at 50yds. It's a huge upgrade over the factory setup.

As per tjmac I tried H&N 8.64s (4.52) at 11fpe and WOW! Ragged hole at 30 and 3/4” group at 55 (with a little cooperation from the wind). Uj

You wont know until you try...not all rifles like the same pellet, even from the same mfgr... You need to try different weights and head dia to see what works well in your gun. Stick with popular name brand pellets and you will find one that works. Before serious testing, get a simple tune done first!! You can buy kits or just use the factory parts like I do. My TX200 has a basic tune with factory parts, shoots 900 fps with 8.4 AA pellets, can hold sub one inch groups at 50 yds and one inch at 75 yds when there is no wind. I shot a 12 ft lb version of the TX for over 20 yrs in competition and won many matches with it. I dont have any problems with the slightly higher recoil of my fac rifle but some prefer the 12 fp version....that is something you will need to figure out. Tune, then experiment with different pellets, have fun, it will take a little time!!!!

Thanks for the advice. I have been shooting 8.4 H&N FTT mostly. Shoot Diablos today. They seem to habe similar accuracy but the Diablos feel slippery and load much easier. Since I got this rifle back last week from John Thomas tune to 12 fps and trigger at 8 oz it is a different animal. I shoot indoors at 24 yrs. 5 shot groups have been averaging between .225 and .300. Couple of ones and one at .094. I am really happy with it. Its also not as fuss y to shoot. I will order some 10 gr range pellets to try outside, I am interested at 50 yrs come summer. I love it. No cleaning, no reloading, extremely low cost fund compared to my center fire bench rifles.
