Other .177 PCP maximum grain size I can shoot for pellets and slugs?

I'm quite new to the game and have bought my first airgun, PCP PX120 x3 from a local company.

My confusion is that the company only claims pellet performance of their own pellets, on YouTube there are videos that are showing shooters shooting slugs of other manufacturers with it. Grain size 13.43 at 50mtr, but they only discuss groupings, not power or any other technical things.

So I'm curious, here is technical spec sheet of the gun, since there are many very experienced people here, I want to ask if what should be maximum grain I can expect to shoot with it in pellet and slugs too.

If I can shoot higher grains from what company recommends, what would be drop/increase in power and velocity, accuracy that I can expect at the give distance (30mtr, 50mtr and 80 mtr etc)?


Right now I do not have equipment to do this test myself, and I'm also little afraid of ruining barrel of new gun, an experienced person may be able to tell of any pitfalls in advanced.

Not a lot of 177 shooting here but in my opinion 15 ft/lbs would be a pellet shooter. 8-10.5 gr variety.

Yes, it is one of the 4 boxes in pro shop owner's recommendation.

I've also listed this along with Hades, now need to figure out which is better for hunting.


It's unfortunate they don't let you try out a few shots, if not much happens I'll buy this and Hades and give it a go.

Redesign one seems to have removed "skirt" part of the original design, that should improve on long range performance - just a guess

But yes, 13.43 redesigned ones are the ones I'll buy, now only question is of how to check for genuine product.

They are, I think there is some company called "Air arms" in UK that is importing from India. They are basically handling all business in EU region, or maybe just UK. I don't know, atm.

But signs are positive for future.

Personally I would start out w lighter pellets and work my way up until I find the magic. But any of those pellets you've shown might just be the ticket.

If you can find the JSB 10.03g MK3's they are awesome! Here are some groups I shot at 56yards BUT...every gun is different and you just gotta see what your's likes. With that said, most do pretty well with JSB's

That's pretty normal.

I (& others) have many assorted tins of pellets and slugs that haven't worked out. But they don't go bad so are there just in case I do find a use for them. Having recently picked up a new gun it's been nice to have an assortment on hand.

The JSB KO MK3 10g slugs are going to be your best bet for all categories. What I try to do is shoot a heavier pellet at pellet speeds 840-900fps, then when I drop in a lighter slug it helps keep the higher velocity for better slug performance. Limited to about 15fpe in your rifle they are the lightest slugs on the current market you are likely to find, and the have been accurate for many of us even in pellet barrels. The hunting performance is stellar as well, even at slower speeds in the mid 800s.

But as far as what grain ammo you can use, it wont matter, you can use whatever you want within reason. It will just dictate your speeds and accuracy potential. Since your rifle will be around 15fpe you can estimate your speeds with the given weight. There are lots of calculators online but I like the Nielsen one.

Unfortunately, I can't import guns and ammunition, even air rifles and pellet without license for import of guns and ammunitions.

I'll have to request this to pro shop owner, let's see if he feels its good business.

Spoke with the Indian importers with licenses, there is no scope for at least foreseeable future for M3 to be available in India.

They say demand is not enough to stock it.

Things might change if demand is increased, but till then I guess I can't get my hands on it.

Too bad, but understandable. In that case I would still try the JSB KO 10g they have at the shop, and a couple JSB pellets. You wont be able to go super fast with any of them, but the pellets should shoot well at a minimum.

Thanks for recommendation, I have shared that link to M3 to few importers with licenses, let's see if they are willing to take a step ahead.

I'm right now studying different pellet shape and their aerodynamics, my god there are some really, really funky looking pellets and slugs. lol

I've also come to realize that my gun is actually considered really underpowered, so I should be very careful with the grain sizes and distances for effective pesting.
