.177 Match pellet FPM

Back in 90's I seem to remember most match air rifles were tuned for sub 500 fps as that was most stable for match pellets back then.

Just getting back in with grandson and trying to determine the current thinking on pellets and pellet speed.

I bought him a CC T200 and a Daisey 599 to start with, any thoughts on match pellets to start with for tuning??

We use RWS Meisterkugeln heavy (8.2) for most 10 meter practices and most matches. The best price, anywhere, is at Creedmoor. We watch for the free shipping sales, and buy in lots of 25,000. They usually have a sale on Memorial Day.

We occasionally use RWS R 10 heavy in matches (also from Creedmoor).

As I am sure you know, the best thing to do is to find a batch that a particular rifle likes, and stick with them.

Honestly comes down to more a PELLET STYLE issue.

Wadcutters indeed fly best in the 550-580 fps range

Domes do best @700- 800 fps yet can fly very well into the low 900's

Pointed don't generally do that well at any speed, tho are consistent for what they are over a broad speed range.

Now of course over the years some specialized 10M guns had rifling twist rates better suiting the slower speeds. These days twist rates in .177 generally fall in the 16-18" per revolution ranges for most AKA sporting air guns.
