.177 JSB 10.34 VS Predator Polymag 8.02

Using my Air Arms S510, at 50 measured yards, I shot the two 10 shot groups shown above to compare the POI consistency of the JSB 10.34 grain pellet VS the Predator Polymag 8.02 grain short pellet (top or left).

I was actually surprised the Polymag pellets did this well. I don’t think a squirrel would want to bet against getting terminated.

The 10 ring is 1”, the 9 ring is 2”.

Polymags are very effective when they connect. Concussive force of a wadcutter but a better BC, and generally more accurate past 25 yards. However, I’ve rarely found them to be accurate enough to be useful past 40 yards on small game so I tend to stick with domes.

In fact, I had all but written off gimmick hunting pellets until trying H&N Baracuda Hunter Extremes. So far I’ve only used the .177 cal but they are as accurate as some of the best domes but with the devastating impact of a wadcutter.

Hector Medina put up a review in his blog recently with pretty similar observations.

In my .25, out to about 65 yards, the H&N Baracuda Hunter, after extensive testing of about every pellet made, is the most accurate next to the JSB 33.95 Kings. The Hunter Extreme did not perform that well.



In general, my experience is the same as yours. if you are seeking the best groups and accuracy, especially across the entire distance spectrum, the domed pellets are what one can typically go to the bank on.

yes, they are great, they come in 2 flavours shorts and regular.

if you are struggling with the regular, my guns group better with the shorts!
