.177 is really growing on me. Bragging on my Matador again😅

I really love the EDgun Matador STD in .177 topped with the fixed 6X Stalker scope.

This one is tuned to the Nielsen 15.5 slugs at 920 fps. I am absolutely enjoying this gun. These little slugs seem to be approaching .07 BC in this setup. This was calculated using the drop method from 40 to 100 yards. Not the most accurate method, but gives you an idea. The slugs terminal performance is pretty astonishing. On this tune it will push the JSB Beast 16.2 grainers at 940-945 fps The BC of the Beast pellets is significantly lower than the slugs and they do not have the same terminal performance so I prefer the slugs.

Below is 15 @ 75.

Below is 10 @ 120. Wind was very light this day but shifting. Keep I’m mind the optic is 6X too.

This slug expanded to 7.2mm when shot into water.

Great shooting! I loving my matador long also in .22 also. I'm decided to go all out in power, so just ordered a Huma reg. I'm expecting to get 60fpe out of it. Can't wait!

I desire high BC & supreme accuracy. Massive ft lbs isn’t what I’m after. Being .177’s are now available in anything from what you’ve listed to 15-29 grain sized slugs from Bobby Hollowpoint. Don’t know how good they’d work but they look great & of course every barrel &!set up is different. Chamber depth/slug length engagement plays a big part, not just twist rate& higher speeds.

a 32ftlb Daystate spitting 16 grain Eun Jin’s came out way better than expected & a plus if hunting is harder lead for head shots. I would love a .177 set up for one particular slug & longest barrel available for efficiency. Uragan size tanks will soon be available for everything. If given a choice of 34.95 .25 JSB or 18-25 grain .177 slug both equally accurate I’d choose .177 for 150 yards & under as paper is my main thing & flatter trajectory is nice.

Only thing I can say big & heavy has over a hot rod .177 slugger is I can actually see Impact with big & heavy hard hitter in wet or very dry dirt at far distances. I also prefer 6x if shooting off knees & BR for plinking. If serious groups I’m looking at Weaver T 24x42 TR for BR shooting only as I move too much on anything over 6x self supporting.

I am shooting the 15.5 grain Nielsen slugs. Nielsen makes heavier slugs as well but I have not gone heavier yet. From what I have read the BC does not go up too much on the heavier .177 slugs so I have chosen to stick with the lighter ones. I think they are easier on air consumption and really do well on pests to any range I will use 6X (my limit is 85-90 yards).

How are the effects of wind at long range? I was considering a .25 but a .177 slug could be even better...

Once you have a gun that will shoot slugs well I doubt you will shoot pellets at range again. Your question is difficult for me to quantify without lots of testing. I will only say that I am very impressed.

I've always been predominantly a .177 shooter with my airguns, although I do have a 3 in .22 caliber. I'm not a long range shooter as many now love to do but the modern heavy pellets and now the slugs have really improved the performance of the caliber and apparently are dramatically narrowing the performance gap with larger calibers.

First class setup,theses slugs are really changing things especiall with dome of the guns that were a bit overpowered.
