.177 CPHPs on test. Short video.

Hey that’s pretty good. I used to be a big fan of them but since about 2014, it has been rare to get a tin that would do better than 3/4” at 25 yards, and generally with a wild flier that would open things up to 1.0 - 1.5in which took them out of the rotation for pesting.

During that time, I found the RWS Basic wadcutters to group better as far as inexpensive pellets go. That was across several .177 rifles and pistols, not just one or two. They’ve run the price up now though.

Anyway, my advice would be to go back and clear off the shelf. The next delivery probably won’t fare as well.

I"m a huge advocate of pellet testing.

Back in the day of my Marauder Gen 1 .22 and Marauder Pistol, it was a crap shoot (pun?) to get one that shot accurately. At that time, (almost) everyone on the AG forums swore by the JSB's. If the .22 cal. gun wouldn't shoot JSB 15.89 or the 18.13 the gun was considered junk.

Disclaimer: I've owned my fair share of other guns that shot the JSB's like a laser. So I'm not critical of the JSB brand. Love 'em too.

Well, through my testing a bunch (maybe 10-15?) different pellets, I found they both really really liked the H&H 21.14 with the 5.53 heads. And it had to be that head size too. I also did a video showing the stellar accuracy.

My current BSA .177 HFT HATES everything but the H&N Baracuda Match with 4.50 head. Again, won't shoot the 4.52 heads at all.

So, just because your gun won't shoot a particular pellet, you gotta try others.

That's kind of the fun part of AG'ing IMHO.

Keep up the testing!

Thanks! BTW, before the actual filming, I did a little "Battle of the pellets" b/w JSB 7.9 & CPHP 7.9 (rounding off) The CPHPs did much worse than what you saw on video. But, then I noticed my shooting was inconsistent. Particularly my trigger pull. So, I shot accordingly and you saw the results on video. The JSBs do shoot very well out of this gun though. I will try and test more on video as I can and post them.

Not bad not to bad at all...

I just picked up a R7 in .177 and was going to post what are you guy shooting in these low power springers ?

I'll pick up a tin of those Crosmans tomorrow at Wally world but I still want to order some quality pellets too...so what is the laser accurate pellets your shooting?

I Was thinking on AA Falcons or some JSB RS 7.33s but I'm all ears !

I found out today that RWS hobbys are not that accurate in my gun...had decent results with some 8 grain Vogals (Merlin match) that had laying around and don't remember where I even got them from. Lol.

While you are out on a cheap Wal-Mart pellet buying binge I may suggest the Crosman 7.4gr pointed pellets in the 250 count tins. Believe it or not I get sub one inch groups at 50 yards from my 177 Redwolf on medium power. The 750 count tins of Benjamin labeled HP similar looking compared to the CPHPs shoot differently does half inch at 50 out of my 177 Huma Renegade but the CPHPs shoot all over the place in that gun even tho they look very similar. YO!

To be honest, my HW30 likes a variety of ammo. I actually shoot the JSB 10.34 really well. It shoots most pellets really well. I will be repeating this test with other ammo as I can, and as I have. As for "Laser accurate" I consider this kind of shooting pretty close to Laser Accurate. I am not the most steady shooter. I shake a little or a lot here and there. Not long after making the video I shot a small bird at around 20 yards with the same ammo. Perfect head shot. I don't have as much luck with the H/Ns historically. Even the Polymags do really good in it, but tend to be a wee bit less consistent.
