.177 BSA R10-SE Performance and Maintenance Review

This afternoon, I pulled my BSA laminate stock R10-SE out of the vault to give it a little attention. Purchased in March of this year from AOA, this little rifle is deadly accurate and fun to shoot.

First, for those that may have an interest in acquiring a new pcp and are exploring options, this rifle has been trouble free except that the machine screw that secures the bolt handle in place would work loose when new. I applied a little blue Loctite and have not had any trouble since. The single shot loader is not near as user friendly as some, as it takes a little effort and practice to work getting the tiny .177 pellets into the receiving hole. The magazines work fine, but they don't appear to be very robust to me.

Other than the above, this is a fine rifle to shoot. Quiet and consistent in every regard. I performed the usual barrel cleaning with my Patch Worm and a couple of felt cleaning pellets to finish it off. All of the stock and scope screws were checked for proper tension with no issues discovered. I then checked the scope zero and once satisfied, proceeded with group testing.

It was about 50 degrees here locally with a reported 8 mph cross wind, but I decided to shoot a group outdoors anyway, knowing that the 10.5 grain pellets would undoubtedly be impacted to some degree at 52 yards. The results can be seen below.

For the money, this is a very good looking rifle, not heavy, well balanced, that shoots and performs well, and that should last for generations.
