.177 AA TX200 after 15 months of work - Good Enough

I have been working on my AA TX200 for about 15 months. It has the Vortek PG-2 SHO Kit installed. Thousands of shots later, using virtually every pellet available to try, yesterday I achieved five groups nearly all identical to the one shown below. These groups were achieved using the Air Arms Field Diablo 8.4 grain pellet. They averaged 830 fps out of my rifle with a SD of 5 fps, right out of the tin, with no individual pellet weighing exercise involved.

On this forum and in other places, I have read where JSB makes this pellet. Interestingly enough, JSB Exact Match 8.44 pellets, hand-weighed to within .10 of a grain, averaged 10 fps less, with a SD of 10. They shoot "nearly" as well but obviously not quite as good, and I have tried this comparative exercise many times now. Also, I tried the very expensive JSB 8.44 premium pellets with no better result than the standard Exact Match, at the 18 yard indoor range, and the 50 yard outdoor range.

The group shot below, is a 10 shot group. The squares are 1" and the shooting was done from a bench with sandbags, at 18 yards on my indoor range.

At this point, I don't think I am going to worry about making it better and call it "good enough."

TX200 is a nice looking rifle. They are pretty darn good out of the box. If you can find a sizing tool and a set of dies to size your pellets you will discover that sizing pellets will yield more improvements than weighing and sorting. I bought the sorting tool which measures head size. After I figured out what size was best for my rifle, I bought a sizing tool and three dies. The .218 die was the one that took my groups from a very tight scattering of pellets (say maybe 3 MOA) to one hole (maybe 1 MOA).

Somewhere on the forum there is a thread about that journey.

I struggled with my TX for a while. Sometimes great groups and then sometimes a lot of horizontal stringing. What I found was it does not like being shot off the bench. Since I bought it for field target I stopped shooting it off the bench and just shoot it from a bum bag. Shoots great now. Any other of my spring rifles I could do well from the bench but the TX was just a different bird. I have found it to be extremely accurate. If it's not windy and I know the distance I can shoot groups to rival anyone sitting on a bum bag.

So true ! I am noticing better accuracy and 30fps increase sizing my .22cal Sig Sauer Wraith pellets.
