1720t or PRod for small game?

Hey guys. I know this has been discussed before to some extent. Truthfully I haven't seen any discussion of 1720t and hunting. Only accuracy tests.

The PRod is quite a pistol. In .22 there's no doubt of its capabilities.

But I'm more inclined towards the 1720t.

I got a Leshiy with the .177 in 350mm. And I really love it with the sub 12ftlbs reg! Quiet and deadly!

So I'm not averse to .177 and single shot.

What would you recommend? Is the 1720t up to the task?

Cheers!

BTW where are the best deals on either?

I use a 1720T with upgrades on the hammer spring, transfer port, huma regged and a polished trigger. It kills squirrels dead and is so accurate, I almost always "OverScope" the little gun. I can take it almost anywhere in a small backpack, opening area's to hunt that might not normally be considered available.

I've made clean kills at 70 yards and my friend Steve killed a squirrel with his stock 1720 T at 80, first shot, first try.

They shoot so very well and respond well to just a little bit of grooming to offer 30 shots @ 12-13 ft lbs.

On a calm day, it shoots so well, it's hard to put it down.

But I also just was given a .22 PRod that is doing these groups below, at 70 yards with the copper pellets. I actually have two PRods, but one of them has been miraculous in the accuracy dept.

There is a pellet hole at 7 o'clock- I had hard time chambering that pellet and it still shot pretty well. That's 6 pellets at 3 o'clock from the bull.

It's very shroud sensitive- how tight you've the shroud on the barrel can make the gun a sprayer or a player...

So, I guess it's a toss up!

I think the 1720 may be the best gun that Crosman has put out in recent years. Go to a major field target event and you will see a bunch of them on the line and some configured as rifles on the rifle line. I am not crazy about the rifle stock that Crosman makes for it but there is an adapter made for it and you can use an AR stock. I like mine with the AR stock attached. Good luck with your decision.

The PRod is the loudest, easily. I do have various LDC's that bring the level way down, but then you have to unscrew them to fill the pistol. When reattaching the suppressor, the barrel tension changes and it can really mess with your zero and group size. I do have the little screw on suppressor that tames it a bit and it's the same circumference as the barrel so doesn't need to be removed to fill. However, it merely dampens the noise; it's still noticeable if one is attuned to listening.

The 1720T is not too bad, but I do put a Hugget on the end- the shroud isn't as sensitive to tension. You can screw it up, but it takes effort to do so.

There are large open spaces in NorCal, inviting walks over rolling grass covered hills with ground squirrels and Eurasian doves sprinkled among the copses of trees. Unincorporated areas, a quiet airgun opens up plenty of opportunities, particularly if silent.... the 1720T with a LDC is completely unnoticeable.
