It was dead calm this morning and I got to shoot in near perfect conditions. I’m shooting the 13.73 grain JSB pellet at about 860 FPS. I was surprised at how hard they hit out past 100 yards. I tried five or six groups and most were three or four inches, these last two were my best. So from what I can see, I could hit a starling at 130 yards on occasion if I had my bench and bags. What really impresses me is the folks here that can do it off a car hood using a bipod...with the bird on top of a silo! Oh and I found my first two ticks of the season, bummer. If you look at the picture with the view from the target you can see that I have to shoot up hill. Doesn’t that actually mean the distance is less than 130 yards because of the slope? I used a laser range finder to determine the distance.
Distance from one object to another on a single plane in a straight line doesn't change. So 130yds at 30deg is still 130yds at 0deg. Your trajectory may change though. Great shooting
Thanks Mike, with all the attempts at 130 yards I still only have had two sessions where I got good groups. It’s definitely a lot harder than I thought it would be. But it sure is satisfying!
