In reality, no gun (I believe) is unused then beyond that how would ANYONE prove how many shots have been through any gun? It's the condition because shot count wise nothing can be proven!

Proper use shouldn't cause any damage. I suppose they will sustain wear, but seals, o-rings and even springs if kept under a preload will deteriorate without use as well.

I guess at some point dirt and dust becomes "patina" and shouldn't be cleaned.
