10 pound PCPs, what's the damn problem?

If you look, we have a decent trend going with lighter PCP offerings. The Crown, Brocock Hi Lites, and others are emphasizing lighter guns around 7 pounds., Adding a scope weighing under 19oz is a MUST for me, on a field carry gun. Otherwise, why buy a lighter weight gun in the first place? When I pick out a gun, I consider what I will be using it for. Placing a 27oz scope on a 7 lb gun? If I choose a heavy, long PCP, it will be for benchrest or Prone hunting from a bipod.

I am old and suffer from MD, so for me, every ounce really counts. I've looked at some of the guns with gorgeous wood stocks and such, and always gravitate to the lighter plastic stocks for two reasons. 1. Lighter. Every ounce counts. 2. as one Vet told me, wood stocks move with moisture and temperature. Plastic stocks don't move as much so shoot more accurately.

Mostly, it's weight.

Even though I own an Impact (Overall weight before scope 7 pounds), I'm tempted to try a Maximus (5 pounds) or Fortitude (5.3 pounds), just because they are so stinking light. Go with a small, light scope or better, open sights (no one does that any more!) and you are still looking at a 6 pound gun. The guns are reasonably accurate, so fun can be had by all including the younger crowd that may not be up to a 12 pound gun.

My Marauder weights in at just under 13 pounds. I love squirrel hunting with it. But after having both rotator cuffs repaired twice, it’s a load to carry. So I carry a Primos shooting stick. I have a WoodsWalker too. Much nicer to carry. Waiting on a SS valve for it. I dont really like the bull pup style. But I am starting to understand the light, compact design.

I agree with d3vnull. The springer recoil happens before the pellet even starts moving. A light springer would jump too much unless it was low powered, in which case it wouldn't be as useful for hunting. This is not as much of a problem in PCPs, though there is still a bit of a jump, but it's comparatively weaker and happens later in the firing process.

My RAW HM1000 with the BIG BELLY FT stock weighs over 13lbs scoped,,,,,whats the big deal?!?!?!?!

Yeah, but you are big and mean!!

Only when I don't get my BLUE SCREWS 😂😂😂😂😂

I like this topic. I now have 2 springers, a hw30 and a hw80. The 30 is under 8 pounds scoped and the 80 is over 11 pounds scoped. Both are great guns, but the 30 is my “go to” for a walk in the woods. OK, I’m 66 and that may make a difference, but since most of my shooting is offhand, I’m just better with a lighter gun. I will very soon be getting into PCP’s, and I’ve set my sights on an Impact X in .22 with an Hawke Airmax 4-12. 😋. Weight was definitely a consideration when deciding on this AG. (I also like the minimalist/AR15 look of the Impact).
