1.5 hours of unexpected free time

Was working today and had two jobs lined up. Got to the first one and another contractor was already there. Pressure washing and other contractors doesn‘t mix. Went to the next job and got it done. Returned to the first site to find the other company still working and unwilling to provide an estimated time to be done. God I hate situations like this.
I have an employee with me on the clock. Nowhere else to go efficiently. The employee is a young lady who is 20 who has grown up without much in the way of extracurricular activity. Then it dawns on me she had expressed some interest in air guns and the local store is just 4 miles away. Off we go.
I had the shop set her up with a demo gun (Brocock Sniper in 22), sit her down at the bench and go through the basics of the gun with her. Full bottle of air and fresh tin of pellets. Once I saw she was in control I left the range and talked to the store owner. Came in and checked on her, offered some pointer on trigger work, readjusted the scope focus and complimented her on the shooting. She was doing very well.
A bit later I check back in and the gun needs air. Shop fills it up and she is off and running again.
I think she would have sat there all day shooting. As it was she made it through 1.5 bottles of air and almost half a tin of pellets. End result was a big smile on her face and a desire to do it all again. We were there longer than the 1.5 hours I was shooting for. Day was shot work wise but it was not wasted.
Was a good way to spend a lost afternoon.
If you have a chance to introduce someone to this fine sport, don’t pass it up.

Young lady shooters are very important to our shooting sports. Kudos to you for taking the time to show a new hobby to a young woman. Some become wives and mothers with positive experiences with shooting. And we all know the powerful influence mothers and wives have in our lives. Good story made me smile…

Completely agree. The more there are of women that enjoy shooting the less likely that the sport will be regulated into oblivion. Having said that, shooting is probably one of the few sports that might be an equalizer among the sexes. Heck, women might even be better at it…

Indeed sometimes within our self imposed daily rush, problems with their unexpected opportunities present themselves. It's in this forced slowing dealing with said problems, we're able to clearly see once hidden opportunities. The most valuable item on this stage is TIME, as we know not the time remaining until our last curtain call? Today always endeavor to do good and be a blessing to all those we love, know, and meet. For tomorrow will come, but perhaps it will not be seen by us friend?

"What is the use of living, if it be not to strive for noble causes and to make this muddled world a better place for those who will live in it after we are gone?" ~Winston Churchill
