OK
Well, got out to the new place to try out around 830 this morning after seeing the wife and kiddo off. It was a chilly 26 with a beautiful frost on everything, very calm and the sun was starting to shine.
This was my first set of the day: some big ole trees running along a creek between 2 wheat fields.

I didn't see the first fox squirrel till right at 9 and it was scurrying back to a hole. I heard one behind me jumping from branch to branch. I just stayed still and allowed the day to unfold. I looked to my left and saw Mr. Coyote and he came to about 40yds and was going to bust him in the head but he got my wind and hit the afterburner and was gone across the wheat field. Well of course the squirrels hid so decided to move about 75yds down the creek to the south to get a better view of the tree the squirrel went into.

I waited listening to the woodpeckers and crows and saw a head pop out of the hole. I got ready and let him get completely out and sit on a branch and centered the crosshairs on his head and squeezed the RTI off and pop down he went

I just reloaded and waited and another came from a tree to my right and was able to get a solid hit on it and it fell to the floor

So after gathering those 2 I walked about another 100yds to the south and set up under some big trees with nest all around.

I set this spot for about 1 hour and managed to get 3 more nice fox squirrels with the RTI

So I got a total of 5 fox squirrels in a little over 2.5hrs with RTI

It was a great morning just to be outside and the squirrels made it even better!

Great hunt, and an excellent post. The pics show a text book example of typical fox squirrel habitat. Reminded me of some of my youthful hunts in Mississippi.
Thank you. I think of all the hunting I've done in my life squirrel hunting is the most enjoyable. It's funny around here when I ask to hunt squirrel people look at me weird.
