1" @ 25 yds. v 2" @ 50 yds.?

Wad cutter generally are much lighter than most domes of same caliber ... FYI
Shot too fast a Wad cutter flies horridly !! ... FYI
Wad cutters by design and namesake are made to cut clean holes ... FYI
Material shot threw if thin or tear prone in general .. will tear even with a dome pellet.

Greetings. Wind aside, can you say that 1" groups @ 25 yds. is the same accuracy as 2" @ 50 yds.?

Are there "wadcutter" pellets that make clean holes?

.25 caliber Airmaks Katran.
1" @ 25 yds seems too big. What brand of pellets and what weight are you using to achieve that? What speed are you shooting? Airmaks should group better than that i would imagine, you might be shooting too fast. Without a chronograph and knowing the fps, all you can do is try different weight pellets and see how they group. Try a premium heavy pellet aea 33.9 gr
I don't think there are wadcutter pellets in .25

I would not accept 1" groups, I want less than 1/2"...but then you are using an example, I will go with yours.First off, the need for a better scope may come; also, better stability and maybe more power, so I would think this, using an accurate PCP that can shoot 2" at 50yds, should be able to shoot 1" at 25yds.
all things being the same,it is pellet choice, slug choice and power choice, yes it would be harder to do,but not that much harder,it would be funnier.

Generally, the relationship between levels of accuracy at different distances is not strictly linear - it is a little worse than that. So a gun that would shoot 1" groups at 25 yards would probably do a little worse than than 2" at 50 yards even without the effect of wind. It's just the reality of things - longer distance leads to more time for things to move off the ideal path.

Many of my groups are well under 1” at 25 yds. I was just using that number as an example.

So let me rephrase the question. Absent wind, is it any harder to get 2” groups at 50 yds than 1” at 25 yds? I can think of things that would make it so.
Most modern airguns will shoot decent groups, (with a compatible pellet) out to 25 yards.

Once you get much beyond 30-35 yards pellet stability, airgun consistency and shooter errors become much more apparent.

So yeah, not so easy at 50 yards... and the wind adds a whole other variable 😉

Cheers!

Agreed, I like the challenge of shooting at the limit of a guns capability. Doing that I learned another facet of long range accuracy issues to add to the list, "Cant". That one plagued me for a while.

In general with a decent air rifle and pellet you should see twice the size groups when you double the range at reasonable distance and no wind.

I have used comparable size for targets for years, but its only practical for aiming purposes. For example I have shot .22 cal airsoft BB's with an HW75 pistol at 25 yards and compared that to shooting a golf ball at 100 yards but with what pistol?

When you add range you add multiple handicaps to overcome.

Yeah, "cant" was a real awaken LOL !

All my scoped PCPs have bubble levels... AND I use them!

I cant < see a bubble level while aiming, 😁 so I grabbed an MTD level that i am able to see while aiming. Shown here. It can be moved from gun to gun. I use the MTD Send It, to set the cant of my scopes when setting them up. 👍

Nice setup!

I can see my scope mounted bubble levels with the gun shouldered. Just before breaking a shot I check to make sure that the fawns aren't near the shooting lane, confirm that the bubble is centered, and let fly.

My bottle guns with high mounted top-heavy optics are prone to canting on the rest so I'm careful to watch where the bubble is. I can see - real quick - on the group if I forgot to check bubble. 🙄

I just came in from shooting and baby sitting... the local doe (Molly) left me to watch over the fawns while she went off somewhere. Mid-afternoon is quiet time for the fawns and they were bedded down a couple of feet from the bench watching me so I could concentrate and not canting the PCP.

Cheers!
