If you're like me and many others here it seems, you'll want the 'prime rib' soon enough... so I'd get the Guantlet to get into PCP cheap but a good gun, then just start saving for the impact or similar since you'll inevitably want it soon enough. That seems to be what I'm doing anyway. 

 Does anybody know, based either on experience or *ideally* an equation, how much velocity is lost by the pellet at 100 yards or 150 yards from its original velocity? I assume there has to be an equation with ballistic coefficient, starting velocity, distance, etc. factoring in, but have not...

Regarding your second issue : just checking, but that part you're describing isn't the safety spring is it? Were you able to get the safety bolt back in just fine? It just sounds a bit like that part so wanted to mention it... sorry if this is way off. This may be of some help: (jump to 6:15...
