So what is the range where a pellet of an air rifle in .22 cal go before it can hurt someone?

I've got about 700 to 750 meters from my house to the interstate.

I'm asking this because I'm worried how far can a pellet go and still hurt someone.

This is the second scope I've gone through; this one being one that came with the air rifle. What is odd about this is that both scopes failed in the same fashion. In this one the scope is hitting 3 inches to the left with the turrets turned all the way to the right, and that's at 10 yards!

Well the rifle I got shoots pellets at sub-sonic velocity. So what would make an air rifle sound like a firearm?

Ok, so if I want to hit higher I move the rear sight higher above the barrel?

I'm try to figure out hear that when sighting in iron sights I move the rear sight in the direction I want to hit? Does that make since? 

So the way I read it; I cannot hunt small game using an air rife that shoots pellets bigger than .22.
