I hate rats, but they are hard to shoot!

The footage looks nice and certainly usable for the task at hand. It's always funny to me how huge rats are compared to mice in the scope. I would love a thermal scope but too cheap to spring for one that is sufficiently good. They seem to come down in price over the years.

I hate rats, but they are hard to shoot!

Nice shot! What scope & rifle did you use? It looks like IR footage. Mice, at times, move faster than my eyes can track them. They tend to use the same paths, though, and with patience you will find that they settle down at or near bait. They are also curious, and may (or may not :))...

I hate rats, but they are hard to shoot!

On rats, I found that head-shots are hard to pull off consistently when they flank you (at least for me), and also found that body shots are very effective. If they look at you or away, head-shots are effective. Bait is the way to go, as mentioned by the beautiful & smart people above. I have...

    range finders.

.... and even at relative short range 10m (33ft) vs 11m (36ft) is a 0.5 mil difference in hold-under (with my rifle and scope). For pesting that is easily the difference between hit & miss.

    range finders.

Leupold's "guaranteed performance for life" is a "limited 2 year warranty" for range finders. When my Leupold RX-1200i died after a couple of pampared years, I henceforth replaced it with a Vorex Diamondback HD 2000.

Taipan Taipan Veteran II tactical owners 550 barrel

I would miss the anti-double load feature of the original Veteran. The only thing you give up with a shorter barrel is efficiency and max power.

If you could only have 1 springer air rifle, what would you choose?

It depends on what you need it for. Competition Air Arms TX200 or Weihrauch HW97 in .177 where weight is less of a concern. Hunting/pesting Weihrauch HW98 in .22 or HW95; same gun in two different configurations. HW80 if you want more power but it's heavier and with a harsher shot cycle. .20...

    Chrono's don't agree... At all

ProChrono DLX specification says "accuracy +/-.5% of measured velocity or better". With my Taipan Veteran w/ ProChorno DLX I was getting 258 m/s and extreme spread of 4 m/s over 7 shots (I was making power adjustments in a series of 75 shots). When I looked the only thing more accurate was Lab...

H&N Baracuda copper plated and other non lead projectiles question

They have worked well for me both in Weihrauch HW80 .22 and Taipan Veteran .22. They are accurate at short range.

    Chrono's don't agree... At all

FX Chronograph does not have any specification for accuracy just so you know. Competition Electronics does specify the accuracy of their devices including the ProChrono DLX. They also have excellent support so I would call them or drop them an email and see what they say. strlok+ has a...

H&N Baracuda copper plated and other non lead projectiles question

Not that it answers your question but I suggest you give Predator GTO a whirl.

Taipan Veteran: is it possible to make safety easier to operate?

I never had a need to take the gun apart as it always just worked. Tuning for comfort if you will. Decocking is not a bad idea either... hmm. Thanks everyone.

Taipan Veteran: is it possible to make safety easier to operate?

I had my Taipan Veteran for just under 3 years now and it's been brilliant. Is possible to make the safety easier (require less force) to operate? Vendor had no suggestions.

What's your magazine type preference and why?

Agree. They are super easy to load, and paired with the anti-double feed mechanism in the gun they work reliably every time even when you forget if you loaded a pellet or not.

    Lead Free Pellets & Springers

They shoot great in my HW80 .22 at near ideal speed. The tin-alloy is harder than lead, so I don't think I ever had a deformed pellet. H&N Baracuda Green are also good and a little heavier and more expensive than the GTOs.
