These may help - you remove the butstock from the tube by pulling straight down on the adjustment lever and sliding it backwards - it should pull right off. The "tops" of the tubes turn to release them from a slot in the stock. They won't come out when the stock is on the tube, as the tabs hit...

I think if you remove the butstock from the main tube, you can turn and release the covers on each side tube.
