I just purchased a Weaver T-Series XR 36x40 scope but can't get it focused at 75 ft. The closest distance I can get it focused is about 100 ft. The Weaver specs state it will go down 50 ft. Is this a common defect?

I'm burning my eyeballs to raisins searching for a scope to use strictly for 25 yard benchrest. The only real experience with scopes is with my Sightron SIII 10-50x60 with a fine crosshairs reticle, which will be used with another rifle at 75 - 100 yards. I don't want to spend that much again...

Is a 10-50 scope too much magnification for 25 yard benchrest? I once thought it was too much at 100 yards but now I like it.
