Hi everyone, I’ve just ordered a 0.217 and 0.218 die set from GMI for my Presslug. I’d love to hear your thoughts on their quality and your overall experience using these dies. Any feedback or tips would be appreciated!

Hi, yes — it’s lead ingress between the two parts of the split die, which pushes outward and puts pressure on the ring, making it difficult to unscrew. This happened to me once as well. What lubricant are you using? I had to clamp the whole assembly in a vice and free it with a punch and hammer.

I've only had issues with the PS dies. The press itself is great. I've reached out to the team at PS but they do not seem willing to resolve these issues. For this reason I'm looking at Corbin going forward. In the meantime I will be looking at replacement dies for the PS from GMI

Question while we are on the topic of bad vs good quality 😆 this is a slug mass produced and I do not understand how they get this smooth almost waxy finish witch all large pellets and slug manufacturers achieve. Please can someone enlighten me. Thanks

Look at the gap between the dies, you will see an ever so slightly larger gap

Hi. Another issue im trying to resolve with the Presslug is this "smear mark" caused by the bleed hole on the die. Are there any lead composition alternatives or lubrication alternatives I can try. Or as I suspect the bleed hole position is to close to the ogive?.. thanks

Thank you, Jan, for getting back to my email. It says a lot when a manufacturer takes the time to respond and work with the user to resolve an issue.

Also overall finish is not to bad, but I think getting better lead with some antimonium could possibly improve the flashing issue, any thoughts?

That said and in all fairness I have managed to reduce the flashing by re aligning the punch and die but still not perfect.

I hear you. Fortunately, the press is well-made and of great overall quality. As for the punch and dies, the new crown setup makes it easy and cheaper to get replacement dies made if you have access to the right equipment. Fortunately, I have access to a tool and die machine shop and will be...

The same .2165.. I only give them a short tumble in a vibratory tumbler with either corn cob or rice as the medium. My rifle prefers .218 so I will be making my own 218 die and punch set soon.
